I know there are a lot of good players on the Syracuse team, but I don't get it why Smith isn't getting more playing time.  Everytime he gets back in a game (after setting out 3) he has to "re-adjust" to live pitching.  He hasn't struggled at all; in fact, in limited playing time, he is still 1st or 2nd in average, on-base percentage, slugging, and on-base plus slugging, and has 1 more walk than strikeouts.  Given a chance of playing regularly, he would likely put up the numbers he did last year in New Hampshire, but Davis seems determined to keep him out of the lineup.  Lydon is good, does get on base and steal bases, but doesn't have any power potential.  Coats is decent, too, but Adams, I don't get.  Not really much potential.  Any why play Mench regularly, when he didn't play regularly in the bigs?  I might be missing something here, but what?  I know Smith is 27, but the other outfielders are around the same age or older.  Why would the Jays give up on a player that did so well last year?  I know Smith got hurt, but he seems fine now.  I could see it if he had done what Kruzer did, and not put up numbers this year, but he has.

Po-Hsuan Keng, who was originally injured while pitching in the off-season, has been released by the Jays.

Maybe that was a tribute to the fallen George Carlin:  "And now a partial score from the GCL: 4."

Further notes on Tim Collins:

The only earned run he's allowed occured when Jackson threw away the back-end of a double-play.  If the runner would have been out at first on the relay then his ERA might well be 0.00 as this would have ended the inning.  As it was the opponents got a couple more hits.

While it looks like he has some control problems this is where it gets strange.  His has annihilated RH hitters to the tume of a .122 BA  10 H and 5 BB in 24.1IP.   Control is not an issue against RHB.  LH batters haven't hit any better .079 BA but he's walked 13 in 13.1 IP.  I don't know the reason for this since he's a LHP.  Lugnut Fan do you see any reason for this split?

Well, the only thing that I can to justify it as a former left handed pitcher is that he just hasn't faced enough of them to get used to a hitter on the left side of the plate.  Most hitters you face in your prep career are going to be right handed and when a lefty comes up, it can tend to throw you off a bit.  If I had to guess, I would say that is it.  It is just going to take him some getting used to and I would think that is something they could do in pen work with a dummy on the left side of the plate.

Five Fishercats have made the All Star Team.  Snider, Campbell and Jeroloman will accompany pitchers, Brett Cecil and Zachary Dials.

Dials' stats as closer don't look too impressive on the surface, but his peripherals are strong and he is being hurt by a high BABIP (.403).  His FIP is 2.65.
