Davis Romero had a solid start despite taking the loss. He allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He also struck out one batter. Jordan DeJong pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief and struck out four batters. Mike Gosling worked the final inning and allowed one run on one walk and two hits. Former highly-regarded Braves prospect (who is enjoying a revival) Charlie Morton lowered his ERA to 1.91 and improved to 4-1 on the season. Offensively, Buck Coats was 1-for-4 with a double. Hector Luna was 1-for-3 with a walk and Chip Cannon, playing first base, went 1-for-2 with a walk. Catcher Erik Kratz was 0-for-3 with three strikeouts. Recent pickup Danny Sandoval went 0-for-4 and made a fielding error.
Right-hander Brandon Magee actually had one of his better outings this season despite allowing 10 hits in seven innings. He allowed only three runners to come around and score. He walked three and struck out three and his ERA fell below 6.00 to 5.90. Brandon Camardese continued to struggled since his promotion from Dunedin and allowed four runs on three hits and a walk over one-third of an inning. Daryl Harang did Camardese no favours by allowing both inherited runners to score. Aaron Mathews led the offence with a 2-for-4 night, two runs scored, a triple, homer and three RBI. Brian Jeroloman was 2-for-4 with a double and Anthony Hatch was 1-for-3 with a run scored and a double. Travis Snider was 0-for-3 with an RBI and a strikeout.
Kenny Rodriguez pitched OK, but not great. He allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out two but fell to 4-5 on the season. Nate Starner pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless ball. Edward Rodriguez continued his inconsistent ways and allowed one run on two hits during an inning of work. Cory Patton went 2-for-3 for Dunedin and drove in a run. Matt Lane was 2-for-4 and Adam Calderone had a 1-for-4 night with a double and two strikeouts. J.P. Arencibia went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts and a passed ball behind the dish.Great Lakes 3 Lansing 1Luis Perez continued to improve after a terrible start to
the season, despite taking the loss and falling to 1-5. He allowed three runs
(two earned) on six hits and one walk in six innings. He struck out five and
induced groundballs on nine of his 12 outs. In his last four starts (21
innings), Perez has allowed 14 hits, seven walks and has struck out 25 batters.
Over the span of the season, he has also induced almost five groundballs for
every flyball out. Ross Buckwalter, Cody Crowell and Chi-Hung Cheng all pitched
scoreless innings of relief. Moises Sierra is one of Lansing’s
hottest hitters right now and he went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and two strikeouts.
John Tolisano was 1-for-3 and walked, but was picked off. Matt Luizza was
1-for-4 with a run scored. Justin Jackson was 0-for-2 with two walks and was
also picked off. In a roster move, 2007 draft pick Alan Farina was placed on the disabled list and southpaw Joe Wice (finally) earned a promotion to Lansing.
Three Stars (although no one deserves ‘em on a four-loss
night):
3. Luis Perez for allowing two earned runs over six innings.
2. Davis Romero for allowing one earned run over 5.1 innings
1. Aaron Mathews for a 2-for-4 night with a triple, homer
and three RBI
