Saw this linked at BTF and thought Bauxites might be interested, if they haven't heard this story already on Travis Snider. Jordan Bastian at MLB.com had a similar article a couple weeks ago.
It ought to be noted that with the first spring training games going today, winter is officially over for baseball fans, whether it goes down to -18C (below zero F) tonight or not.
Filing it under the 'Blatantly Obvious', the Blue Jays Hope to be Healthy.
I guess when games start, the news will get a little more interesting.

File this under prospects. Marc Rzepczynski not only had very pleasant W and K rates last year, but also continued his very high GB rate from college, THT reports today. The sinker was working.
Didn't notice this elsewhere but Shawn Green has retired.
Not only do the Jays hope to be healthy, they think they are all in good shape now. Not an injury to speak of.
Perhaps we could vote on who will be the first player to hit the DL for 2008.

I was thinking about Shawn Green's retirement yesterday, and it's a bit of a shame it isn't getting more attention around here. I grew up with Delgado, Carter, Clemens, and Green as my favourite players and if anyone has the time/inclination, it might be nice to have some sort of tribute to Shawn Green - he had some great moments as a Jay. If Jays fans don't do it, I don't think anyone will.
I still think the Jays should call up Jose Cruz Jr. and sign him to a one day contract for a Friday this summer; likewise for Shawn.
Then throw them out there with Shannon Stewart and have the ultimate Flashback Friday moment.
And if they really, really want to go all out, bring out Jose Canseco, who can promote his new book, and Roger Clemens, for his goodwill tour, call up Darrin Fletcher, Ed Sprague. I'm sure Alex Gonzalez and Craig Grebeck aren't doing anything better with one of their Fridays.
The only missing piece would be Carlos Delgado, but you can throw in Tony Fernandez as your honorary first baseman if need be. Then we can party like it's 1998.

Sure, that team won 88 games, but also finished 26 games behind Da Bombers (114-48), in third place. And they actually had a worse Pythag record than last year's 83-win club (85-77 to 87-75) ... so I doubt that'd spark much partying 'round these parts in 2008!
But hey, Halladay and Escobar were a combined 8-3 that year, and can we get a little Box Love for Mike Stanley, Professional Hitter?

You can remember 1998 how you like to, and I'll remember 1998 how I like to. ; P
