The Jays have one premium prospect and he continues to hit like one.  He should pick up his 2nd league MVP in as many years.

Syracuse 8 at Buffalo 4

The Chiefs hit a bunch of HRs last night - one each from Lydon, Barker, Corrente, and Hattig. Corrente had 3 hits on the night while Lind and Barker each had 2 hits. Mike MacDonald started and went 6 innings, giving up 4 runs on 9 hits and a walk. He struck out 4.

New Hampshire 1 at Connecticut 3 (game 1, 7 innings)

New Hampshire 1 at Connecticut 2 (game 2, 9 innings)

NH's only run came on a Rob Cosby solo HR. Isenberg gave up all 3 runs in 5 innings.

Game 2 was scoreless until the 9th inning when all of the runs came.  Ryan Patterson led off the 9th on a double and scored on a throwing error on a sac bunt.  Tracey Thorpe came in for the save but promptly gave up a lead off HR, triple and sac fly.

Dunedin - Day Off

Dayton 5 at Lansing 10

Travis Snider continues his hot August with a 3-5 night, including a HR and 2B. Snider now has a comfortable lead for highest league OPS and is the RBI leader despite playing about 15 fewer games this season.  Jaspe also had three hits while Diaz had two. Nate Starner started and gave up 5 runs in 5 innings.

Mahoning Valley 3 at Auburn 2

Marc Rzepczynski had a decent outing, giving up one earned run in 5.2 innings. He struck out 4 and walked 2, and also combined with Arencibia to throw out two baserunners. Manny Rodriguez had two hits for the Doubledays.

Can anybody provide insight into Snider's likely developmental process - is he going to start next year in Dunedin with a midseason call up to New Hampshire if he's playing well, or will the Jays just let him start in AA and see what he can do? Do players ever just skip a level outright? If he did start the season as a Fisher Cat, could he conceivably make it up to Syracuse in 2008? I guess what I am really trying to ask is - using the quickest scenario, what is the earliest we see Snider on the Jays? Is midseason 2009 a possibility, perhaps as an injury replacement? (I am presuming being a September callup that year for sure is)

Kind of an update here.  Snider didn't win the MWL MVP.  Gorkys Hernandez from West Michigan did.  Snider was named to the post season all star team however.

I think Snider would be best served to start the season in Dunedin with a possible mid-season promotion to New Hampshire.  I think he may make his MLB debut as a late season call up in 2009 and compete for a roster spot in 2010.  That would be my development plan for him.

Cameron Maybin skipped AA and AAA this year after half the year in the FSL.  His age 19 season was played in the Midwest League (as was Snider's) and his OPS was about 40 points lower.  Whether Maybin will be back in the minors next year is an unknown.

I don't think the Jays will be that agressive with Snider, unless ravaged by injuries to outfielders.  I think at least Lind, Patterson and Matthews are above him on the outfielder depth chart for next year.  My guess is Snider will play in Dunedin and New Hampshire next year if his numbers stay where they are.

I guess if you can steal a base, you win the MVP in the MWL.  What a travesty!

901 OPS Seems a little low for the league leader, is this primarily a pitcher's league?

Wait, the season isn't even over!  What's the rush?

I think it'd be a surprise if Snider didn't start in Dunedin.  Of course, the Brewers moved Prince Fielder from the Midwest League one season to AA the next so who knows, but Snider isn't quite Fielder good at this point (at least based on the numbers).

I agree with you Pistol, but they announced the MWL award winners yesterday for some reason.

I had the opportunity to watch Fielder in the MWL.  He was on a talented team that year as Rickie Weeks and Tony Gwynn Jr. also played with him.  Fielder and Snider are very similar in their plate approach and the way they hit the ball.  Fielder got a little more elevation on it.  My MWL memory of Prince Fielder however is watching him strike out to give the 2003 MWL championship to Lansing that year.  The thing with Snider is that it isn't the hitting he needs to work on.....It is the defense and the base running that needs work......

Just in case anyone wanted to read about the award winners in the MWL.  I think Snider was screwed over as well, but if Hernandez wouldn't have won the MVP, I get the feeling they would have given it to Clayton Kershaw.
