I've been wondering why JP has been somewhat conservative on position player promotions this year.  Aside from Diaz and Santos, I can't recall any other significant player promotions.  Maybe JP has felt that he has rushed players in the past, but I am all for position players being aggressively promoted, especially when they are considered older for their current level.  I'm especially in favour of having some younger bats at Triple A-the line-up has only 3 prospects (Lind, Santos and Diaz). There are a couple of players who I feel should have been promoted by now:

Josh Kreuzer, 1.000 OPS Dunedin (split DH/1B duties with Cannon at NH)

Mathews or Smith from NH to Syracuse-trade or release Griffin, Mottola, Lydon or Vento (preferably Vento)-this also frees up a spot at NH for Jacob Butler.

I saw on one of those tickers on the weekend and confirmed by BA that the Jays have signed 27th round pick Cdn Kyle Gilligan who played in a US JC last year and I think with the Intercounty Leafs this summer.  Headline writers everywhere are praying for a rapid ascension to the major leagues.  A potential  headline:

Skipper gives Gilligan a start at short

Feel free to make up your own headline.

Eiland also got caught stealing for the first time on Saturday, but he also swiped another two bases. 14/15 ain't too shabby. I can't remember the last time the Jays had anyone in the organization running that much.

Eric Eiland is definitely one to keep your eyes on. He has the wheels to steal 50 a year in the majors and judging by his low CS total, he has a good idea of how/when to steal aswell. The biggest key to base stealing can be a players instincts.

Eiland could've easily been drafted earlier. I really like his tools especially his speed.

At the other end of the base stealing spectrum, Arencibia threw out 3 would be base stealers Sunday and picked a runner off as well. For a farm system that seemed dry on catching prospects in the not so distant past, there are suddenly some very intriguing players donning the tools of ignorance (Free Curtis Thigpen, Diaz, Jeroloman, Arencibia, Collins....)

Diaz continues to tear apart AAA pitching with a 3 for 4 performance and 1 RBI so far tonight in the 7th.

If things go remotely according to plan, the future looks good at C, 1B, 2B and in the OF. Hopefully some of this year's draft picks (Ahrens, Jackson) address the problems on the left side of the infield. Next year, here's hoping we go after a high-ceiling starter in round one, regardless of whether or not the arm's a high schooler or comes with signability issues. By the time the oh-eight crop matures, we'll most certainly need a new wave of arms.

What can I say? I could get used to having quality pitching.
