The Rookie League numbers appear poor. League averages in the Gulf Coast League are .248/.331/.358. The average strikeout rate appears to be about 8/9IP. It is an environment which favours pitchers. The New Hampshire hitters' numbers all took a hit the last two weeks as they faced the Yankee prospects Hughes, Kennedy and Chamberlain, and then some good Portland pitching.

Jeroloman's walk numbers are reaching freak-of-nature levels. His walk rate is easily, easily, easily #1 in the FSL with a silver bullet, among qualifiers. He walks more than 1.6 times as often as the next guy. It sounds like there's a little bit of Gregg Zaun in him, offensively at least.

Given Jeroloman's clear lack of power I guess his 24.3% walk rate should be met with some skepticism, but it's really really impressive. And at 22 it's not like he's a geezer in high A. What are the odds he's putting up comparable numbers in AAA in a couple of years?

It's nice to see Lind have a 4-4 night with a double and triple.  I'd like to see him up again in September platooning with Johnson.

Joel Collins debuts and goes 0-2 with 2 Ks, but scores a run.  I can only assume he reached base on a wild pitch on a strikeout.

Lots of 2 hit games for the HS'ers.

Josh "Memories of Cannon" Kruezer is separating himself from Chip in at least one crucial department - k rate.  He has less than half Chip's strikeouts in roughly the same number of plate appearances.

Has anyone else noticed that the kid that apparently can't catch for the Jays (take a bow Mr. Thigpen) has now thrown out 5 of 11 would be base stealers since returning to AAA?

Kreuzer is doing a nice job on the FSL.  At age 23, Cannon whipped through there in a month like a hurricane with homers galore and a not too nasty K rate.

I am glad to see Collins make his debut, but I hope his stay in Florida is short.

Mike Green - Friday, July 20 2007 @ 10:11 AM EDT (#171797) #
By the way, Collins reached base the Sparky way, as was his habit in college (more HBPs than Ks).

Tonight is apparently "Christian Family Night" at the ballpark in Lansing.  "Bahai Family Night" and "Buddhist Family Night" can't be far behind in the land where church and state are separated, can they?
timpinder - Friday, July 20 2007 @ 05:53 PM EDT (#171827) #
I will be there for "Agnostic" night.
Mike Green - Friday, July 20 2007 @ 07:47 PM EDT (#171831) #
Kyle Ginley has 8 strikeouts through 3 shutout innings in Lansing.
Lugnut Fan - Saturday, July 21 2007 @ 01:42 AM EDT (#171845) #
Ginley finished the night with nine strike outs, but the Lansing pitching staff struck out 17 total tonight.  Christian Family Night yielded 11,104 fans in Lansing tonight.
