On All-Star game night in double A and triple A, Josh Kreuzer set Dunedin afire with a late blast.  The farm affiliates went 1-2, and the double A All-Star game, with heavy Fisher Cat representation, was cancelled due to fog.

Syracuse, scheduled day off for All-Star game

New Hampshire, scheduled day off for All-Star game

Vero Beach 2 @ Dunedin 3

The Jays came back in classic fashion in the bottom of the ninth to prevent Brandon Magee from taking a tough loss. With one out, Carlo Cota walked and Eric Nielsen followed with a single up the middle. Josh Kreuzer then won the game Earl Weaver style with a walk-off blast over the centerfield fence. Magee went 7 innings and allowed 1 earned run on 5 hits and 2 walks, while punching out 5. Billy Carnline was nicked for an insurance run in the eighth, but Adrian Martin threw a perfect ninth in his FSL debut  to set the stage for Kreuzer's heroics. Cory Patton threw out a runner at the plate early in the game, and Magee helped out his own cause by picking off a rehabbing B.J. Upton with the bases loaded and one out. Brian Jeroloman went 0-1 with 3 walks and threw out the only runner who attempted to steal. Jesus Gonzalez chipped in with 2 hits.

Lansing, scheduled day off

Auburn 3 @ Staten Island 4

A ninth-inning Doubleday rally fell just short.  Auburn trailed 4-1 entering the ninth.  Manny Rodriguez doubled, and with two out Ben Zeskind walked and took second on defensive indifference.  Victor Santana singled in two before Leance Soto grounded out to end the game.  The Doubledays whiffed 16 times on the night.  Wilfreddy Aguirre started and went 6 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 5 hits and 2 walks with 4 strikeouts.  J.P. Arencibia had the day off.

GCL Tigers 5 @ GCL Blue Jays 2

Brian Letko kept up his run of good pitching, but there wasn't a lot of happy news for the young'uns. Letko went 4 innings, and allowed one earned run on five hits and a walk, while striking out 5. Balbino Fuenmayor went 1-4, while Justin Jackson and Kevin Ahrens each wore the collar as the Jays could muster only 5 hits. Jonathan Del Campo drove in both Jay runs with a single, and also walked twice.

Any sign of Cuban defector K-Rod at Dunedin yet?   Has he joined the team?

He's on Dunedin's roster, but has no number (if that means anything).

Magee's last ten games have been very solid, strikeouts aside (at least they're above his walk rate now).  He's gone at least six innings in nine of those starts and five in the other.

Ricky Romero has been getting a real taste of the other AL East top pitching prospects.  Last time, he faced Red Sox farmhand Clay Bucholtz shortly before his promotion to triple A.  Tonight, his mound opponent will be Yankee hot prospect Ian Kennedy.

J.P. Arencibia left Monday's game after being hit by a pitch.  He did not play last night or in today's game (which the Doubledays lost 9-5).  He is not however on the 7-day disabled list, but Brad Mills is.

Well Alex came close, but Sergio won.

I missed this. Santos won the AA home run derby.

Rotoworld just posted their top 150 minor-league prospects list. The Jays had the fewest players (one) on the list: Snider, at #43. Ouch. Part of this is because of several promotions (Lind, McGowan, Marcum, Janssen) over the last year or so, but still. I guess it's a good things we had so many picks in this year's draft.

Despite the fact that he didn't advance as quickly as some baseball people might have preferred, the year Sergio Santos has put together certainly has to be looked at with a smile. Here's hoping that he goes on a little hot streak and finishes the year on a high note. I'm sure I'm not the only one of us who hopes to see him grab a cup of coffee in Toronto at year's end. Well done, young man.
