OK, this doesn't really have much to do with baseball. Any possible connection is welcome!

But it was on this day fifty years ago (fifty? fifty?) when John Lennon first met Paul McCartney, at Woolton Village fete. Lennon and his Quarryman were playing; McCartney was on hand to check them out.

Anyway, a day of some significance - do you want to imagine a world where there had never been Beatles? - and regarded around my house as a sacred occasion.

I read the news today, oh boy.

Some days, I am sure that Chad Bradford feels like a yellow submariner.<ducks>

I always thought "tomorrow never knows" sounded like something Yogi would say.

By the way, on July 7 1957, Yogi broke up a 2-2 tie with a three run double off Chuck Stobbs in the seventh as the Yankees beat Washington.

On July 7, 1957, in the National League, Lew Burdette threw a complete game in a 4-2 Braves win, foreshadowing his great World Series performance.

The average length of all nine-inning games on July 7, 1957 was 2h25. Yesterday, it was 2h53 and if not for Wandy Rodriguez and Kyle Lohse, every game would have been longer than two and a half hours.

And the connection with The Beatles? Well, pretty much every one of their earlier hits was no longer than two and a half minutes...

No sorry assed pun involving Blue Jay Way? Tsk, tsk. Me? I've got nothing.

Never mind. It was one of George's (Harrison, not Bell).

Well, we did this "Beat the Band" Beatles-inspired Hall of Names challenge here on Da Box some time ago ...

Gosh, I remember back in '87-88 when I was editor of the campus magazine, dojng a story headlined "It Was 20 Years Ago Today" based on the 20th anniversary of Sergeant Pepper -- and now THAT was 20 years ago, more or less today.

And I'm still a real Nowhere Man ...

Which means the answer to "What do early Beatles hits have in common with a hit like a Jorge Posada inside-the-park home run?" is "Each takes about two minutes and 15 seconds to come to its conclusion."

Or "what do early Beatles hits have in common with Toronto Blue Jay 2007 winning streaks?"

I don't know if there was anybody left watching the Jays at the end of today's game cept for me and my monkey.. Well maybe the taxman.

Your mother should know that you should watch every game through to the end. I mean, sure, the Jays didn't win today, but I want to make sure that plays like McDonald's throw in the 9th don't pass me by.

Now, if the Jays would just get around to fixing a hole they have at backup catcher and shortstop, things would be getting better to the point where they might make the playoffs in a year before when I'm sixty-four.

I still need a George song, but I figure Blue Jay Way is sort of implied anyway.

Marcum has been outstanding this year but we had too know that  all things must pass and that feeling should be within you without you.

The Jays would have a much better record if they could do it on the road.

JP better be fixing a hole, or Uncle Ted will be giving him a ticket to ride.
