There are no great, or even very good, pitching prospects in the organization. Still, there are quite a few pitchers here who may surprise and contribute something to the big club at some point.

My favorite young pitcher is AJ Wideman, but he never seems to be on these lists.
In 12 starts this year he has 9 QUALITY starts. His WHIP in Dunedin has been EXCELLENT [0.93 in 8 starts].
He has good control, and doesn't give up a lot of hits.
Granted, the long ball hurts him at times, but he can pitch out of jams.
What does he need to do to get ON the list?
Just wondering.

Nice to see Ginley put it all together for at least one start.  Because he is only 20 and has a power arm, I rate him higher than most of our other pitching prospects.

I'm a little confused by Brandon Magee's inability to strike batters out.  I thought he threw fairly hard.  His senior year at college, his K/g rate was 8.7, compared with 6.8 in the two previous years.  In rookie ball last year, he was back to 6.9 K/g and this year at Dunedin he has a dismal 3.9 K/g.

Skippy23, I like hometown A.J. Wideman too.  He certainly belongs in this company, and I will include him next time.

It's only 8 games, but Snider's got an amusing batting line for June: 344/333/469. No walks and 9 Ks will do that, I suppose. I wonder if it's time to promote him, and make him work on his strike zone judgment at a higher level - I don't know how much incentive there is to adjust your approach when you're still hitting .349.

Personally, I would not promote Snider right now.  He's 19, and holding his own but not destroying the Midwest League, perhaps due to the residuals from the nagging injury.  He has a great attitude from everything I have read.  I would let him learn what he has to learn and then move on.

It would not surprise me at all if the homers and walks start coming, and the strikeouts start falling shortly.  It might be a different situation in 3-4 weeks.

Thanks Mike.

Marc Hulet has reported over at BlueJayWay that 2nd rounder, John Tolisano; 4th rounder, Brad Mills; and 10th rounder, Joel Collins have all signed contracts today.

Tolisano reportedly is off to the Gulf Coast League.

And now Ahrens, Arencibia, Cecil, Eiland, Rzepczunski, Emaus and Canadian Condotta have also signed. That leaves Magnuson, Boone, Jackson and maybe Lefflers to sign, while the remainders will be summer follows.

Thanks, Marc.  What about Brad Mills?
Mike Green - Friday, June 15 2007 @ 06:50 PM EDT (#169943) #
Never mind.  I see that's covered in ayjackson's post.
ayjackson - Saturday, June 16 2007 @ 12:35 AM EDT (#169953) #

So will we see a Gulf Coast team infield of Ahrens-Jackson-Tolisano-McDade and Talley behind the plate?  Having all these high draft picks is kind of exciting.

Trystan really got roughed up today at the CWS.  Didn't see who ended up winning but he blew the save.
