The affiliates went 0-4 last night.  However, a successful Litsch debut makes it a good night.

Indy 8 @ Syracuse 5

Ty Taubenheim had a rough outing giving up 5 runs in 5 innings (4 earned).

Olmedo, Mottola and Thigpen each had two hits.  Olmedo's making a case to be the Jays utility infielder with Smith being DFA'd.  He's at .303/.378/.336 now.  He's showing no power, but if he has a good glove and some speed he can be useful.

Old friend Howie Clark got the start at 2b.

New Hampshire 6 @ Reading 7

David Purcey got the start for the Fishercats.  It's tough to evaluate his start as there were 5 New Hampshire errors last night.  So Purcey gave up 4 runs, but only 1 was earned.  He walked only one batter in 5.2 innings.

Sergio Santos and Ryan Patterson each had HRs for NH.  Santos still has more doubles (14) and HRs (10) than singles (9).  Patterson seems to still his power after recovering from his spring training injury as he's hitting .282/.300/.513.

Tampa 6 @ Dunedin 1

The D-Jays couldn't touch Ian Kennedy last night getting just three hits - all singles.

Aaron Tressler started, going 4 innings and giving up 2 runs.  Yesson Berroa was the High Class A recipient of poor defense as he allowed 4 unearned runs.

South Bend 5 @ Lansing 3

Graham Godfrey had a successful second start of the year.  He pitched 6 innings with 6 Ks, 2 BBs, and 6 hits, allowing 2 runs (1 earned).

Travis Snider had a single, double and 3 RBIs.  Chris Emanuele also had 2 hits.

3 Stars!:
3 - Travis Snider
2 - Ryan Patterson
1 - Sergio Santos

I'd leave Olmedo where he is til mid season. Then, if his numbers are still good, bring him up to start the remainder of the season. If he hits, it is a huge plus. He is a much better than average defensive ss who can also run some if he's on base.

Apropos of absolutely nothing: Rick Ankiel is hitting 281/318/571 in AAA Memphis. Who saw that coming?

The Syracuse Post-Standard says improvements to Alliance Bank Stadium in Syracuse are in the works, but it's not the improvements the place desperately needs.

Also, Matt Michael is off the Chiefs beat at the Post-Standard as he's taking a news position instead.  That's too bad because I thought he did a hell of a good job covering the team.

What's the deal with Russ Adams this past week? First Thigpen, now Howie Clark at 2B? Doesn't exactly sound like things are progressing the way we'd hoped they would.

Also: to anyone who saw Ryan Roberts the few games he started in LF this year, can he handle himself out there as well as, say, Lind?

The other day the minor league report had the probable starters listed in it.
Is that too tough to put on here with all the movement that happens in an organization?
If not, I think it would be GREAT to be able to see the probable starters.

Indianapolis @ Syracuse, 7:15pm; Probable starters: Shane Youman (1-4, 5.35) vs Mike MacDonald (0-0, 5.73)

Thanks Maldoff - I know I could figure it all out if I had to... but it's nice to be able to find it here.

With Ohka moving to the bullpen temporarily, who else thinks it'd be wise to send Vermilyea back to AAA? He hasn't worked in quite some time and, personally, I think the Jays could use a pinch-running option this weekend (Olmedo, Lydon). Plus, if you call up Olmedo you can pinch hit for the shortstop twice in addition to any replacements you send out there for the pitcher.

The other day the minor league report had the probable starters listed in it.

It's pretty easy to find yourself: go to MiLB.com, click Scoreboard, then the league the Jays' affiliates are in (International, Eastern, FSL, Midwest). Or you can choose the team directly from the drop-down list and their "home page" usually has the probable pitchers for today's game (or a recap of the game if it's over).

I agree with sending Vermilyea back to triple A.  In fact, I'm a big believer that the Jays aren't taking advantage of Syracuse enough - if your starters go deep 2-3 straight games, demote a reliever, bring up Olmedo for a few days and pinch hit for the shortstop early.  if you burn through 5 relievers in an extra-inning game, why not demote one for the weekend to get a fresh arm up?  If this is too hard on a younger player, what about a fringe guy whose just happy to be in the bigs?  I'm looking at you, Brian Tallet.
