Hey, no one goes undefeated.

And so the Twins and Mets are just enjoying the moment.

While, it's always disappointing when a rally falls short, teams overcome nine run deficits about once a decade. You can't be disappointed by that.

Ted Lilly wins his first start for the Cubs. And Rodrigo Lopez wins his first for the Rockies. Lopez is someone I had my eye on this year - when a guy loses 18 games and then moves into Coors Field, the possibilities do send endless.

And the Giants lost as well, despite a home run from the aging left fielder.

This afternoon it's Gustavo Chacin against Justin Verlander, which matches up a pair of pitchers who didn't have the most memorable springs. And the Tampa rainout against the Yankees means the D Rays are juggling their rotation slightly. Edwin Jackson is being bumped back to pitch against Texas on Tuesday. Ohka, Halladay, and Towers should now match up against Shields, Fossum, and Kazmir. Unless they change their minds again.

And then it's home.

I was checking out my Carter division team, and noticed that yahoo says the Jays game this afternoon has been postponed

Looking at the positive...

  • Nice outing by Accardo. Keeping him on the roster over Rosario, who could be gone for little or nothing in exchange, is a decision highly susceptible to second guessing: Let's hope Accardo proves it was the right choice.
  • The Good Jason Frasor came back this year. Good sign, particularly with League MIA.
  • So far, it looks like Towers in the rotation and Zambrano in the pen was the right decision.

Of course, the big negative, aside from Burnett's suckage, is that the bullpen is getting used up and we've got Gus "You mean there's a seventh inning now?" Chacin starting today. We'll see how Janssen bounces back from bullpen usage - they'll probably need two or three innings out of him.

Yep, the Jays' site confirms the game has been postponed to September. (gotta love that unbalanced schedule)

It can't be a good sign when the cancellation of the third game of the season provides a much-needed break for the bullpen.

Chacin will pitch tomorrow in Tampa.  I wonder how this will shift the rotation.  Obviously Doc will still go on Saturday.  Does Ohka go Sunday and Towers bumped to Tuesday, since I would assume they'll keep AJ on schedule?

You assume correctly, as per TSN.

Great headline, given our recent Muppet theme!

I thought Frasor's big problem last year was the strike zone and not getting border line calls. I remember one game in Fenway against Boston, his stuff was good, but he wasn't getting the calls. As a result, he had to throw the ball down the middle of the plate. I think he is a very solid pitcher. I will agree that Accardo's performance yesterday was encouraging, but I'll need a few more appearances like that one before I trust him.

Magglio Ordonez was having quite an adventure out in right field yesterday. Maybe he should think about getting rid of about 4 lbs of mullet and he might be able to catch a ball.

New rotation plans. Chacin Friday, Ohka Satuday, Doc bumped to Sunday because Gibbons "didn't want to move Ohka too far back".

Jeff Blair updates the Jays' rotation plans:

As a  result, ace Roy Halladay will get an extra day's rest and now start Sunday's series finale at Tropicana Field against the Devil Rays Scott Kazmir. Gustavo Chacin, scheduled to start Thursday's game, will now pitch Friday. Tomo Ohka will go on Saturday - meaning that Josh Towers will miss his start and now go Wednesday at the Rogers Centre against the Kansas City Royals.

Which, barring any further shennanigans, should give us A.J. Burnett on opening day. Hopefully Towers won't be gathering rust, but you could have a more difficult season debut than against the Royals.

FYI, Sportsnet to carry Daisuke Matsuzaka's debut this afternoon.

It's too bad that Towers is now starting in Toronto.  I thought it would be good for him to start on the road, as his flyball tendencies could hurt him at the Dome.

This is not the way I had hoped Francisco Rosario's Blue Jays career would work out.

Rosario sold to Phillies.

Brent S - Thursday, April 05 2007 @ 04:06 PM EDT (#165286) #

In cases such as these, I wonder how much "cash considerations" really amounts to. I gather that the Jays felt that the Phillies were going to claim Rosario if they tried to pass him through waivers and the cash was the best deal on the table.

Blair blogged recently that JP had three offers at the end of Spring Training. I wonder just how poor those offers were for the Jays to take the cash.

Blair must mean that Towers will pitch on Tuesday and not Wednesday.

Friday--Chacin
Saturday--Ohka
Sunday--Doc
Monday--Burnett
Tuesday--Towers (it would be too short rest for anyone else).

I saw the Sox/Royals game today and boy was it a treat. Dice-K threw a gem. He was locating all his pitches and had the hitters guessing all day over which pitch was coming.  Although he should thank the ump he called German out at 2nd when it looked like he was safe. There was over 125 Japanese media members at the game.
jeff mcl - Thursday, April 05 2007 @ 06:33 PM EDT (#165302) #
I watched most of the Bosox-KC game this afternoon and I thought it was more interesting seeing just how bad the Royals are close up  than any of the Dice-K business.  Greinke was quite good, but there really isn't much there for position players beyond Alex Gordon and Mark Teahan that you'd expect to still see on their roster three years down the road when the "rebuilding" process has started to pay dividends.  I think we've got a lock for a 5th 100 loss season in 6 years.  That's really only disappointing I guess in that Kauffman is cool in a Dr. Who sort of way and probably deserves a better team.
