I know, I promised VBF a panorama of the inside of the Rogers Centre today, but I cannot let Gregg Zaun's fantastic day in Seattle yesterday go unappreciated.  Ladies and gentlemen, give up your desktops for THIS MAN:

That's alright, he deserves it.

Let's hope we can bring him back next year, because he's The Man.

I'm a selfish girl and I want to keep both of them. The Bengie and Zaunie Show ( "A pudgy Boricua and a hard-nosed little guy team up for the greatest catching show in baseball!! See them call games! See them hit baseballs! See them take no prisoners!  See them complain about playing time but not about each other!") was very successful this year.  No drop off when one or the other caught!! But they both want to go solo and neither want to share top billing.  So one has to be set free.

Hey NFH, was Zaun out warming the pitcher up while Molina got his gear on?  I seem to recall Benji returning the favour earlier in the year.  Not able to get to many games in person I'm wondering how often this occurs in MLB?  Isn't it usually a bench coach that fills in?

Or was this pregame?

No, this happens pretty often if Molina/Zaun are left stranded on the basepaths the other catcher covers for them. Tom Wilson used to cover for Greg Myers as well and visa versa.

Free Bengie! Bring back Zaunie!

VBF has it right -- it happens pretty frequently.  The best time to get a shot of a catcher in action is during the warm-up, because there's no batter or umpire in the way (though sometimes there's a cop in the background, with his back to the action, watching the crowd).  I always try to get something good of the catcher during the warm-ups, and as a result I also get shots of the backups or sometimes a member of the coaching staff doing the same thing.

I think Bengie was in the on-deck circle to end the inning in this case
