A couple of minutes after this was posted, it was 5-5, Hinske was up against Mariano Rivera with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, with a chance to win the game, end the four-hour contest, and be an instant hero in New England to all those fans who saw the first three games go the Yankees' way.

Rivera climbed the ladder, Hinske swung and missed at three fastballs in a row and Boston lost in 10 innings.

POTD mojo does not apply, apparently.

Oh Dude.  You were fun, in a meathead kind of way.  You reminded me of a mix between Ricky from the Trailer Park Boys, a man-tank, guys I went to high school with and a dash of something from Wisconsin.  I grew to admire your hustle this year, even though you lost your job.  My all-time favourite moment of yours was that homerun against the Unit, in his showdown with Doc last season.  You often fell short of being the "Man" in clutch situations, but for one night, you were.

Good luck in Boston.
