A quiet night with the bats as the affiliates went just 2-4 on the night. There were, however, several fine pitching performances. And as always, your daily Travis Snider update.
Box Challenge - I'm in too much of a hurry and not clever enough to come up with a headline from last night. Let's hear your suggestions!
Syracuse 1 @ Scranton-WB 10
The Chiefs actually managed 9 hits on the night, but were only able to score one run. Kevin Barker had 3 hits including a triple.
Josh Scobie took the loss, his 17th of the year in AAA (11 were with the Tides). That's impressive in more than one way.
New Hampshire 7 @ Portland 9
The Fisher Cats also managed 9 hits, 8 of which were singles, yet scored 7 runs. The lone extra base hit was a Ryan Patterson home run, his 1st in AA.
Jesse Litsch got hit around a bit giving up 7 runs over 4 innings. Litsch's K, BB, and HRs numbers look better than his 6.94 ERA suggest, but he's given up 71 hits in 48 innings.
Vero Beach 0 @ Dunedin 2
Orlando Trias earned his 11th win in Dunedin after pitching 5.2 scoreless innings. Trias had 6 Ks and 1 BB. Daryl Harang and Connor Falkenbach finished the game without giving up a hit.
Aaron Matthews scored both runs after going 1-2 (triple), 2 BBs, and a SB.
SW Michigan 3 @ Lansing 1
Casey McKenzie pitched 6 scoreless innings before the bullpen gave up 3 runs in the last two innings. Lansing scored just 1 run on 7 hits. Brian Pettway had a triple, Yuber Rodriguez had a double and Anthony Garibaldi had two hits.
Auburn 2 @ Oneonta 5
Scott Campbell had two hits. He seems to make the MLU every Wednesday, but is hitting just .279 now, so maybe his Tuesday splits are strong. Luke Hopkins also had two hits for the Doubledays.
Wil Aguirre last only one inning, giving up 4 runs. The bullpen took over from there giving up just one run the rest of the way.
Bluefield 0 @ Pulaski 1
Reidier Gonzalez had a strong outing going 7 scoreless innings. He struck out 5, walked 1, and gave up just 2 hits.
The P-Jays just managed three hits on the night. Travis Snider update: 1-2, with 2 walks, and was picked off.
3 Stars!
