Lansing had the day off, three teams wish they weren't shut out, and I wish my Internet connection was faster. I should have driven to Syracuse to get the scores; it would have saved time.

Rochester 1 @ Syracuse 0 (Game 1, 7 inn.)

Ten men left on base for Syracuse? Ouch. Jason Scobie went the distance (5 hits, two walks, 4 K's), but he's not what I'd call a prospect.

Rochester 2 @ Syracuse 4 (Game 2, 7 inn.)

A little better. A solo homer from Rob Cosby made it 2-1, Rochester tied it in the next half-inning, then Cosby singled home another in the bottom of sixth. Davis Romero was awarded with a W next to his name after facing six batters and retiring five of them. He also stranded two runners in the top of the fifth.

Portland 6 @ New Hampshire 0

Jesse Litsch is still learning. Ten hits, six runs, two Luis Antonio Jimenez home runs...but no walks. Good sign, I guess. Ryan Patterson went 3-for-4 with a bunch of singles and a stolen base; welcome to the Eastern League, now keep hitting .324 like we expect you to. And yes, I know it's only 11 hits in 34 AB.

Dunedin 5 @ Brevard County 1

Eric Fowler (7 IP) and Connor Falkenbach (2 perfect innings) combined for a well-pitched game. Eric Arnold and Aaron Mathews both had two hits and scored; David Corrente added another two of his own, raising his average to .333.

Tri-City 5 @ Auburn 0

Pass.

Pulaski 4 @ Bluefield 5 (7 inn.)

A walk-off walk? Yup. Pulaski scored three in the top of the seventh, but I guess they should have scored five. Jonathan Jaspe doubled, singled and scored to lead the offense. And I think this was either Game 1 or Game 2 of a doubleheader, but I can't be sure.

Three Star Selection
3. Jonathan Jaspe
2. Ryan Patterson
1. Eric Fowler

Pulaski and Bluefield played only a 7 inning game last night, because they were also completing the suspended game from Tuesday.

So is it still too early to officially call the Leance Soto signing a bust? After putting up a lacklustre line of .152/.220/.495 (AVG/OBP/OPS) with 69 Ks in 138AB at Pulaski last season, Soto has "improved" to post a line of .180/.241/.521 with 18K in 50AB as a 21 year old in Pulaski this season.

Suffice to say, the Jays "big signing" from last season out of Latin America sure does not seem to be working out too well.

Soto has obviously been a disappointment but I wouldn't call him a bust yet. He has shown a little sign of life lately.

He was 2-for-19 in June with eight K
He is 5-for-24 in July with eight K, so the numbers are improving a bit.

His biggest problem appears to be left-handers, as he is 0-for-10 against them with five K
Against righties, he is 7-for-33 for a line of .212 .316 .364

Some more moves have occurred:
Chase Lirette to Pulaski from Auburn
Chris Reddout to Auburn from Pulaski

Erik Kratz to Syracuse from New Hampshire
Jordan DeJong to New Hampshire from Syracuse

Ted Serro, who dominated Pulaski and Auburn, was promoted to Lansing, as were Hector Delgadillo and Zach Kalter.

You can see all these moves on the rosters at minorleaguebaseball.com

That's interesting news about Serro. With all the pitching promotions from Lansing to Dunedin, he should get plenty of work.

"Erik Kratz to Syracuse from New Hampshire"

Would this perhaps mean a Jason Phillips callup by the Jays? Or did that already happen?

Maldoff - Thursday, July 20 2006 @ 04:19 PM EDT (#151126) #

Mike Forbes, that is correct. Phillips was called up.
