The curse of Magpie is really doing a number on the Braves.

Atlanta is now in it's worst losing streak in 18 years. This one was the sort of game you lose when you're in a bad streak, with two runs scoring on Overbay's broken bat blooper and an ace starter walking batters left right and centre. It was nice to see the jays get some runs against Hudson he always seemed to save his best for Toronto when he was with Oakland, I hated seeing that guy on the mound.

Star of the Game: The bullpen can have the award collectively - Speier, Frasor, SS Loogy and Sir Robert Victor combined for 3 Innings of one-hit ball with 4Ks and a couple of walks. Ryan unaccountably forgot to strike anyone out, I hope he's not ill.

Unsung Hero: He's hardly unsung but Wells had another nice night going 2 for 3 with a couple of walks and a couple of runs and a homer and lots of other good things.

Defensive Play of the Game: Marcus Giles catch diving into the right-field seats to snare an Adams' fould was a doozy.

Boxscore

The Prodigal Son: Carlos Delgado is back in town tomorrow, and Richard Griffin looks at his return. Despite his usual couple of tiresome back-handed swipes at the front office this is a nice appreciation of Carlos and ends with an obvious truth: "By the way, tomorrow, first at-bat, he deserves your applause."

Also Coming Back: A few great players are returning to the diamond over the next few days, Roger Clemens makes his first start for Houston tonight, A.J Burnett makes his return to the Jays rotation and Albert Pujols should be ready to go for the Cards on Monday.

One Guy: in almost every roto league was happy last night at a little after Seven as Troy Glaus made his fifth start at shortstop, making him eligible for the position by the rules of most fantasy leagues.

Today: The Jays go for one of those pesky sweeps again as Mr Burnett takes on Horacio Ramirez and his 5.06 ERA. 7:35pm start. It's about time we get to see this team as it was intended to be.

!) Why was Rosario sent down over Tallet? Now when Walker returns, its either Taubenheim or Tallet going down, with 1 staying up and Chulk and Rosario in the minors....hmm.

2) The pitching match up with Houston and Minnesota is amazing: Roger Clemens vs. Francisco Liriano. Incredible!

You're welcome.

Hudson...seemed to save his best for Toronto when he was with Oakland

Seemed? Seemed? Nay, I know not seemed. In 13 career starts against Toronto, Hudson was 10-1, 2.32 and if that's not his best I don't want to find out...

Why was Rosario sent down over Tallet?

It might be the 0-1, 8.31 mark over the last three weeks, walking more than 1 batter per inning. I'm just guessing.

Man, don't you wish they could sneak a microphone into the dugout every once in a while so we can hear what the players are talking about?  TSN had a couple of extended shots into the dugout that sparked my curiosity.  One featured Zaun talking animatedly to Hinske and Hill, and both young players were locked in to whatever Greg had to say.  Heck, I would have been, too.  Another showed Lilly and Gibbons yapping back and forth at the top of the seventh inning; no doubt Gibby was explaining why Ted was done for the night.  I liked how Lilly didn't seem happy about it - I know all these guys are competitive, but Ted pitched a decent six innings, and I'm sure he wanted to get back out there after only 89 pitches.  Finally, there was a shot of Speier and Arnsberg chatting after Justin came out of the game.  Who wouldn't love to hear Arnsberg's uncensored thoughts about the art of pitching and the batters Speier faced?

Seriously, guys, the cabal has got to get somebody into that dugout for a game.  I nominate NFH, who's got the perfect cover as the mild-mannered still photographer by day and superhero crimefighter by night. :)

Of course, as a veteran who used to play in the National League, he might have been telling them about the best restaurants in Atlanta...

There is a pretty nice article on BlueJays.com about Josh Towers. It includes a quote on how he reacted to getting sent down:

"It's a little bit different this time around," Towers said. "I went down there and realized that I forgot everything. I forgot how to pitch. Even [on] the days where you're not going to have your best stuff, you still can kind of control the damage. I forgot everything about that."

Ol Man Franco keeps on trucking.  Two hits today has him hitting in the .340s.  The man's going to be 48 soon, and he can still hit.  As far as I am concerned, that's a whole lot more impressive than George Blanda's placekicking that garnered a whole lot more attention way back when.

Headline suggestion for tomorrow's TDIB

We actually don't normally have a TDIB scheduled for Fridays - we discovered that it's generally the slowest day of the baseball week, and having just six bodies for the seven days of the week, this is the one we generally leave blank. Although... there was so much interesting stuff going on - both in the Jays game and elsewhere - that I'm sorely tempted to put one together anyway.

We do have a report  on the Atlanta series - SWEEP! SWEEP! - scheduled.
