Remember when Josh Phelps was going to be a monster hitter in the middle of the Jays lineup?  These days he's doing his damage as a Mud Hen.

The affiliates were 1-2 with a couple dismal performances from the bats in NH and Syracuse.

Syracuse 0 @ Toledo 2 (16 innings)

Old friend Josh Phelps ended the game with a 2 run HR in the bottom of the 16th.  Yes, the game was scoreless for 15 and a half innings.  So there must be good pitching and poor hitting?

Yes.  Dustin McGowan had a fine outing.  He pitched 6 innings giving up 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out 9.  Marcum, Gronk, and League each pitched two scoreless innings and DeJong pitched 3 scoreless innings.  Ormond gave up the game winning HR.

Ryan Roberts had 3 hits and Mottola and Jova each had 2 hits.

Portland 8 @ NH 0

Michael MacDonald had a rough outing.  He gave up 5 runs on nine hits in 5 innings, including 2 HRs.

Lind, Davenport and Cannon each had two hits for the Fisher Cats.

Dunedin - No game

Lansing 9 @ South Bend 2

Finally, some runs.  Three home runs were hit in this game for the Nuts - by Patton, Butler, and Hicks.  Butler and Hicks each had two hits while Garibaldi had three singles.

Cheng got the start for Lansing.  He gave up 2 runs over 5 innings.  Cheng struck out 3, walked 2, and gave up 7 hits (4 doubles).

Three Starts!
3 - Jacob Butler
2 - David Hicks
1 - Dustin McGowan

With all of the problems with the pitchers (both injuries and effectiveness) would it not make sense to at least give Gronk a chance with the big club.  He's been really good both seasons he's been in the org.  I'd rather see him get a shot than watch Tallet or Walker.

Jays' director of player development Dick Scott likened Gronkiewicz to former Cleveland Indian closer Doug Jones. Not over-powering stuff, but gets the job done.
