Thoughts, comments or analysis on the draft in general? Put them in here. Here's Baseball America's final 1st round projection. It looks like Andrew Miller will fall a bit.

There will also be a Blue Jay specific thread as well.

News is starting to filter in and the first 3 picks seem to be confirmed and agreeing to terms already:

1 - Hochevar
2 - Reynolds
3 - Longoria (another hitter for the Rays....)
7 - Bryan Morris (real surprising)

I wonder if - after the news of his cash demands caused him to (intentionally) fall - an emergency call was placed to Ted Rogers to measure his willingness to shell out for the Tar Heel Hurler.

Miller falls to the Tigers at 6.
Pistol - Tuesday, June 06 2006 @ 01:15 PM EDT (#148346) #
The Dodgers went with Kershaw, and not Morris as spectulated earlier.

Lincecum to the Giants at 10.

4 picks away from Toronto and Scherzer, Chamberlain, and Snider are stil available.

Rowell to the O's, Lincecum to the Giants.

J.P. takes the high schooler. I'm surprised Bard and Drabek are still around, though everyone knew Drabek might fall.

The MLB draft tracker is several picks ahead of the internet broadcast (at least for me).  Some notable picks:

Antonelli to the Pads at 17.

The Phillies took Kyle Drabek.

Yankees take a favorite of mine Ian Kennedy (USC pitcher).

The Braves took John Johnson, a HS OF I never heard of (but they know what they're doing I suppose).

Joba Chamberlain is still out there after 25 picks.  No one else has really slipped.

The picks are being made by the teams now.  Crazy Tommy Lasorda took Preston Mattingly for the Dodgers to lead off the sandwich round (I had turkey!).  Mattingly is the son of Don Mattingly.

The Yankees, those late-to-the-party Moneyballers, end up with college pitchers Kennedy and Chamberlain.

In the Sickels Mock Draft I took Chad Huffman in round 4 for the Jays (#120).  In the real draft he went to the Padres at pick 53.

I took Furnish in Sickels draft in round 5 at #150.  He went the very next pick at 54 to the Cardinals!

Huffman and Furnish just went back-to-back at the end of the second round.  Congratulations, Pistol, on your mock draft.

There's 10 players in BA's top 50 that haven't been selected yet after round 2 (74 picks), but I don't think anyone is all that shocking.

The highest player is Jordan Walden, a HS pitcher from Texas, at #25.  Perhaps he's going to college.

Matt LaPorta is out there, Dallas Buck is available and Chad Tracy is still out there among the higher rated college players.  They'll go soon I suspect.

About 20 picks until the Jays select in round 4.  Some names to keep in mind:

Matt LaPorta, 1B
Ryan Wherle, SS
Harold Mozingo, P
Jeff Manship, P
Jeremy Barfield, OF
Jordan Newton, C

Mike Green - Tuesday, June 06 2006 @ 03:04 PM EDT (#148375) #
Whit Robbins is also available.

Damn.  The Canadian Kyle Orr went to the Dodgers at 113.
Thomas - Tuesday, June 06 2006 @ 03:24 PM EDT (#148380) #
The first Canadian goes at 113 to the L.A. Dodgers (who seem to have an eye for Canadian talent with both Gagne and Russ Martin on their roster). Kyle Orr is a 1B from Lambrick Park Secondary School with an impressive bat. He did quite well leading up to the draft and there was speculation he may go as early as the end of the first round or in the early second round.
Mike Green - Tuesday, June 06 2006 @ 03:27 PM EDT (#148381) #
Robbins was taken at 119, and so it's a pitcher, Brandon Magee.
Thomas - Tuesday, June 06 2006 @ 03:27 PM EDT (#148382) #
Jays take Brandon Magee, RHP, Bradley U at 120.
Ron - Tuesday, June 06 2006 @ 03:32 PM EDT (#148386) #
I'm not surprised the Dodgers selected Kyle Orr. He was taking BP at Dodger Stadium last Sunday in front of Lasorda, Colletti, and their scouts.

He also had personal workouts with the Angles and Twins. He's a Justin Morneau type player.

Pistol - Tuesday, June 06 2006 @ 03:55 PM EDT (#148390) #
Matt LaPorta, 1B
Ryan Wherle, SS
Harold Mozingo, P
Jeff Manship, P
Jeremy Barfield, OF
Jordan Newton, C

As far as I know these players are all still out there.  I like any of the top three.
Thomas - Tuesday, June 06 2006 @ 04:03 PM EDT (#148395) #
Luke Hopkins, 1B, New Mexico St U to the Jays in the 5th round

It looks like Andrew Miller will fall a bit.

Too bad for the team that offers him a contract. He has a hard time making up his mind on important issues:

From the ACC site (Sep. 3, 2003):
Favorite athlete is Ken Griffey, Jr. ... Favorite Major League Baseball team is the Atlanta Braves ... Claims to have modeled [his] game after Randy Johnson ... Favorite movie is Dumb and Dumber

From the Tar Heels' site (no date, but later than the first one):
Favorite athlete is Maria Sharapova • Favorite pro teams are the Florida Marlins and Jacksonville Jaguars • Has modeled his game after Tony Stewart • Favorite movie is "Days of Thunder"
Geoff - Tuesday, June 06 2006 @ 07:11 PM EDT (#148418) #
Interesting guy, but is Randy Johnson to Dumb and Dumber what Tony Stewart is to Days of Thunder?
