The Chiefs scored a run in the sixth on doubles by John Hattig and Rob Cosby to break a 3-3 tie. Josh Towers started and went 7 innings for the win, allowing 3 runs on 2 homers. He gave up 9 hits in total, walked nobody and struck out 3. Vinny Chulk went the final 2 innings in hitless style for the tough save. Chulk walked one and struck out 3, and has struck out 19 in 18 innings of work since he was sent down. His ERA is a pleasant 2.45. Sergio Santos and Danny Solano had 2 hits each, while Wayne Lydon had a single, stole a base, and threw out a runner on the bases.

5 was wild in Altoona in the opener. The Fisher Cat winning streak reached 5 games when they scored 5 runs in the sixth to tie the game, and then 5 runs in the eighth for the victory. Eric Arnold's 2 run homer and Adam Lind's 2 run double were the key blows in the sixth inning rally, and Vito Chiaravallotti's 3 run homer capped the 5 run eighth. Lind went 3-5, while Tony Miller, Big Vito and Eric Arnold had 2 base raps each. Chip Cannon hit his 7th homer of the year. Kurt Isenberg started and struggled for 4 innings, but Connor Falkenbach and Rodney Ormond supplied the stellar relief, allowing the Cat lumber to awake from its slumber.
In the nightcap, the Fishers rolled another 5, this time in the 4th inning to help Davis Romero to his 6th victory of the season. Romero went 6 innings and allowed 3 runs, 1 earned, on 3 hits and 3 walks with 7 punchouts. The Cats ran a classic long-sequence offence, as they banged out 7 hits and drew 8 walks in the 7 inning game and strung together 3 of each in their big inning. Adam Lind doubled and walked and drove in 2 in 4 plate trips. Tony (Orlando) Miller walked 3 times. Chip Cannon went 0-2 with a walk and an HBP. Curtis Thigpen did not play in either game of the doubleheader.
Dunedin 13 @ Palm Beach 6
The D'Jays score 6 in the first inning and 5 in the second and coasted to an easy victory. The first inning featured run-scoring singles from Ryan Klosterman and Chris Gutierrez, a Dustin Majewski sacrifice fly, and a 3 run Christian Snavely homer to cap the inning. In the second, Klosterman had a run-scoring triple, Gutierrez had his second run-scoring single and Juan Peralta capped the inning with a 2 run single. Majewski hit a 2 run shot in the sixth inning and ended up 3-3 with 4 ribbies. Ryan Patterson doubled and walked in six plate trips. Ricky Romero started and went 6 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 2 solo homers in the 3rd inning. He walked 1 and struck out 7. Derek Tate and Milton Tavarez mopped up in the late innings.
Lansing 5 @ South Bend 3 (17 innings)
Wow. That was a ball game. Jacob Butler's 2 run triple in the top of the 17th broke a 3-3 tie, and Adrian Martin shut down South Bend in the bottom of the game to put an end to the epic. The game was tied at 1 through 6 innings. The Lugnuts broke ahead in the top of the 7th on a David Hicks' double, a sacrifice and a sacrifice fly, but the Silver Hawks responded with an unearned run off Joey McLaughlin Jr. in the bottom of the frame. The game stayed tied at 2 until the 15th inning when things got really interesting. David Hicks homered in the top of the inning, but in the bottom of the frame after 2 hits, a stolen base, 2 intentional walks and a balk, the Hawks had the bases loaded with one out and the game tied. Martin induced the next hitter to ground into a 6-2-3 double play. In the bottom of the 16th inning, a single, a Jesus Gonzalez' error and another intentional walk loaded the bases again with one out before Martin induced another double play, this time a 3-2-3. Undoubtedly, the Hawks will be spending this morning hunting around South Bend for a wee bit of the luck of the Irish.
Anthony Hatch homered for the other Lugnut run, and drew 2 walks. Aaron Tressler started and pitched a solid 5 innings, allowing a run on 7 baserunners with 4 strikeouts.
