A rainout for New Hampshire and a winless night on the farm. But there is an update on Ricky Romero.

Syracuse 2 @ Louisville 4

A couple of walks in the sixth led to three runs for the home team: Francisco Rosario took the loss despite not actually giving up a run. Brandon League let both inherited runners score, then let another one of his cross the plate. Rosario's line was 5.1 IP, 2 H, those two runs, 4 BB and 5 K. Wayne Lydon homered for the two Syracuse runs for his third of the year -- one more HR than his 2005 total.

Sarasota 8 @ Dunedin 6

A 3-for-4 night from Ryan Klosterman highlighted the offense in a losing cause for the D-Jays. He had a three-run homer in the fourth, a solo shot in the sixth, and a single that didn't do as much damage. Still, a nice night for the shortstop. Orlando Trias started; 10 hits and six runs later, he was gone.

Beloit 6 @ Lansing 1

David Hicks
was the only hitter of note, driving in the lone run as part of a three-hit night. The Lugnuts left 11 men on base: five different innings ended with a runner on second or third. A.J. Wideman continued his lots of K's, lots of hits start to the 2006 season with 7 and 6, respectively, in 5.2 innings. Yesson Berroa struck out four in his two innings of relief.

Ricky Romero

Several people have asked for updates (seemingly daily) throughout this early part of the minor league season on the status of last year's first round pick. I'll let FisherCatsScribe, a writer who shall remain nameless for this paragraph, tell the story: "Ricky Romero aggravated his triceps muscle in his throwing arm and will continue working at extended S.T. He expects see live game action soon, though."

Three Star Selection
3.
Kevin Gray -- I mean, Yesson Berroa
2. David Hicks
1. Ryan Klosterman

Does anyone know what Negron's stat line is looking like so far? I've been secretly harboring hopes that he's going to reestablish himself as a prospect to some degree.

Negron is hitting .218/.259/.291 in 55 ABs. Player stats are accessible through baseballamerica.com and through milb.com.  Hopefully, Baseball America will update its cool Player Finder for 2006, so that we get other information including G/F data.

I was at the Lugnut game on Friday night. Great game, and a great job by AJ Wideman. With 2 outs in the top of the sixth, he induced a ground ball that didn't get converted to an out [official scorer gave the batter a hit]. Then, with 2 guys on, he threw a pitch that had been a strike in the first 5 innings on 3-2 to the Beloit 2nd baseman that was called a ball. All in all it was a strong outing for AJ, who seems to be finding his groove.

[By the way, if you get the chance, head to Oldsmobile Park. Great place to watch a game.]
