Season Four of the BBFL is underway.

Sorry for the delay. The Box's new editor is wonderful but did not work with my old templates.

ALOMAR DIVISION:

Mebion Glyndwyr thumped last year’s champion Thunderbirds 8-3-1 despite a very close race statistically. Mebion won by .002 of batting average, .006 of OBP, 0.10 of ERA and 0.04 of WHIP. Those things happen. Billie’s Bashers share the lead thanks to a cooking of the Eastern Shore Birds. Regular-season champ Toronto Walrus had the best roto week, but a strong performance from AGF held the Walrus to seven wins.

BARFIELD DIVISION:

Burlington Mazsters, last year’s fifth-place finisher, and 2005 Carter champion Pohnpei Papayas took honors in the first week with records of 10-2-0. The 1-Tool Wonders performed best statistically but could manage “only” eight wins and a tie against a game Monkeymen squad. Fellow Carter advancer Magic 9 also started strong.

CARTER DIVISION:

The BBFL newbies have shown their mettle early by occupying five of the top six spots. The BSL Blue Sox and Trembling Wilburys had the second and third best weeks statistically. Too bad they faced each other. The Blue Sox set a Carter record with a .631 slugging percentage.

King Rat - Wednesday, April 12 2006 @ 02:42 AM EDT (#144974) #

The Rats, still adjusting to their new league, leapt out to a huge lead early in the week prior to succumbing to a very resilient Bashers squad. Licking their wounds, they look forward to MulReduxMonkeymen. But first, the week one awards!

The CARLOS DELGADO AWARD for excellence in hitting goes this week to...Omar Vizquel? Expected or not, the shortstop from the Triassic Era hit a blistering .429/.538/.524, scoring 5, driving in 5 and swiping all three bags that the Rats stole this week, almost making up for the ineptitude of...

The winner of the KEN HUCKABY AWARD for putrescence in hitting, Scott Podsednik. Podsednik "hit" a microscopic .045/.087/.045, scoring one, driving in one and stealing no bases, which played a large part in Bodell being able to walk the walk regarding his promise to win the stolen base category.

Over in the bullpen, the ROY HALLADAY (current edition) AWARD for excellence in pitching went to Jonathan Papelbon, who racked up three saves in four innings without allowing a run or a walk. He gave up one hit, which I suppose we can forgive as he was getting used to the pressures of closing.

The ROY HALLADAY (2000 version) AWARD for helplessness on the mound, conversely, goes to Kyle Lohse, who got bombed in his one start for 4 2/3 innings of 15.43 ball. His WHIP was an even 3.00, and he struck out a batter for every walk he issued. Aye yi yi.

Anyway, the Rats are ready to avenge their early struggles on the Monkeymen, who should most definitely Beware The Rats.

Here’s some numbers of my pitchers this week: 4.29, 2.57, 3.86, 21.00

Those are typical ERAs for a week’s period.  Except that those were the WHIPs of Lilly, Politte, Qualls, and Hammond.  The team ERA was 7.82.  I can pick’em!

Much frustration in K-Town, as the Mashers had resigned themselves to losing 9 - 3 only to have Ronny freaking Cedeno go 4-for-4 in the Sunday night game to take AVG by 1 point. This added to the aggravation of losing IP by 1 lousy inning, of collecting 6 saves when only 1 was needed (and Gagne going down means those extra saves will be all the more needed in coming weeks), and only driving in 36 to lose that category by 1 despite a rare week of living up to the team moniker with a .549 SLG.

MVH: No debate here, as Chris Shelton posted a ridiculous .583/.615/1.458 while scoring 7 and driving in 9. Honourable mention to V-Mart, who promises not to wait until June to be an asset this year.

LVH: Rondell White stunk out the joint at .091/.120/.136.

MVP: With Saves being the only K-Town pitching win, this goes to Tim Worrell who saved 2, won 1, and had 1 of only 2 respectable ERAs on the staff. Honourable mention to Miggy Batista, easily the best starter in week 1 despite his outing coming in Coors.

LVP: All starters not named Batista? There's a wide collection of pitchers with 5 or 6 innings, ERAs between 5.40 and 8.44, lousy WHIPs, lousy K/BBs. Radke doesn't get off the hook for having a win and better rates than the rest, because that came at the expense of the Jays. I guess I could give Haren a break.

Somebody tell Xavier Nady to stop hitting... Victor Diaz is looking like a horrible 15th-rounder at this point.

I'll need him as an outfielder once the Twinkies decide to send Kubel to the bench.

What are the chances? The other part-timer on my roster is Michael Cuddyer, so Kubel is the other guy I'm cheering to get benched. But Batista hitting the pines would work fine for me too.
