A little last minute, but since Robert Dudek and myself are headed down to Philthy McNasty's to watch the World Baseball Classic on Monday night, we've decided to invite y'all out along with us. The game starts at 9:00.

I'm going to give them a call early-ish Monday afternoon, so if you're thinking of coming either e-mail me at aaron@aaronreynolds.ca or post here in this thread so that I can get some kind of idea of how many people will be there.

Sniffle...

I'd go but an ocean seperates us.

The WBC has been great. My money is going on Cuba. Yay Cuba.

The next time I am in Cuba I now plan to attend some baseball games.

NFH...I won't be there although it would be an enjoyable evening watching Fidel's unknown superstars and trying to evaluate MLB comparables.
Given Canada's long term of positive relations with Cuba and hockey brokering a deal where Soviet players could play in the NHL, why couldn't Paul Godfrey pursue some sort of agreement to arrange for certain Cuban superstars to ply their baseball skills in MLB and more preferably in Toronto. Surely some deal could be reached which would benefit the game over the "petty "bourgeois" politics" of US gov't foreign policy... NOT !...well perhaps instead of moving the Marlins to Las Vegas they could become the Havana Sugar Kings...ergh...Sugar Proles and tear down the "Berlin Wall of the West"...that would be one way of getting rid of Geoffrey Loria and who knows who else...where have you gone Angel Scull and Hector Rodriquez ?
I remember when the International League Toronto Maple Leafs played in Havana and Joe "tickertape" Crysdale called the game on CKEY and when they had to move the franchise to Jersey (?) because they couldn't ensure the safety of the players because of flying bullets coming from the celebrating stands...and they call the Bronx, a "Zoo"...ah the good ole days before "free agents" and players' unions ...SMFN I'm off to Google Angel Scull

a follow up...things I never knew...www.cubanball.com ... under timeline..."very interesting" as the guy in the bushes used to say... I didn't realize how good Camilo Pascual was, how many Miami Cubans played MLB and how many Cubans were the first to desegregate certain baseball teams...Cuban baseball seems to be waiting "on deck" for a major rewriting of baseball history once the "Negro Leagues" have their "at bat"...the www.cubanball.com site is worth a looksee

I remember back in the day (90, 91?), when there was discussion of the Jays signing Omar Linares to complete a home/away platoon with someone...Gruber? Linares would play at home, since he wouldn't be allowed to enter the States, and Gruber would get all the road games.

Oh Boy! According to that helpful Google Maps linkm McNasty's is only 1,483 miles from my house. If I leave right now and the game goes 133 innings, I might catch part of it!

I just talked to them -- it's not a busy night, so we can watch the WBC on the big screen with no problem. I'll be there a little before 9:00. If you're someone who's never seen me before, here is a picture from the summer -- my hair and beard are much shorter now, but otherwise that's what I look like.

here is a picture from the summer

I'll go to the Beer Club meeting only if the guy who's holding you in that picture doesn't show up.

What's up with the game being delayed?
6-4-3 - Monday, March 20 2006 @ 09:25 PM EST (#143118) #
ESPN's showing college basketball, so they got the game delayed.

Sportsnet's showing nothing (because, I think, ESPN's still showing the basketball), but the game's actually started. Japan's got a runner on second and Ichiro!'s up. Somewhere, Bud Selig is cursing at an ESPN rep, or destroying his office.

Was quite glad to have the radio broadcast to listen to. After all. Not too many games I can recall with two pitching changes in the top of the first.

Electronics, cars, video games, cartoons, now baseball.

We may as well just bow to our Japanese masters before it's too late.

Add 'pillows' to that list. The Japanese have come up with some pretty magical inventions to help lonely insomniacs.

See here two of their most popular models, for men and women.
