The White Sox are half-way to the World Series, and I have just had an awful thought.
See, when I seeded my rooting interest in the post-season, I had the White Sox third. Pretty much by default, but third they were. Behind Atlanta and San Diego. Remember them?
The Braves and Padres are now wondering about 2006 - how do we replace Rafael Furcal? Must we replace Brian Giles? And I guess I'm supposed to be cheering for the White Sox.
I can't do it. I just can't. Why not?
Two words. Ken Harrelson. I can't possibly cheer for them until... he gone.
So it would certainly help if Vlad Guerrero and Garrett Anderson could, you know, get a base hit or two. And you thought Alex Rodriguez just had a rough series....
Other news - the Cardinals added to their 40 man roster a 26 year old outfielder who divided his season between low A ball and aa Springfield, where he hit .243. Huh?
Well, it's Rick Ankiel and the Cards would risk losing him in the Rule 5 draft if they didn't add him to the 40 man. And surely someone would be tempted by the memory of Ankiel's fastball. Furthermore - Ankiel closed with a big rush at AA, hitting 10 HRs and driving in 30 runs in his final 28 games. Furthermore, the Cardinals youngest outfielder - Jim Edmonds - is 35 years old, Larry Walker is probably going to retire, and even the reserves are elderly. So why not...
