Alex Rios was last night's hero, and what better reward is there than being the subject of the photo of the day?

A small personal plug: I have two photographic exhibitions, one that's already open and another that opens next weekend:

Photographs of Prague are currently up at the Ten Restaurant and Wine Bar in Port Credit, and my Trinidad & Tobago show will be at Burke's Bookstore in Toronto as part of the St. Clair Artwalk, starting next Friday. Click on either for more details and a photograph from each.

Abrams ISBN 0-8109-9119-5...for about $15.00 through Amazon.com ...It has some amazing images ...there also was 2 or 3 sets of BB cards put out in the early 90's of some of his images that are quite interesting ...

Didn't Rios injure himself lifting weights during the off-season? Maybe he should stick to pilates.

Actually, that's not far from the truth. In Sring Training, the Jays did hire a pilate-ist to work with the players. But I don't think he was ever injured.

On a completely irrelevant note, a few friends of mine were waiting by the ramp after a game a few days ago to see the Jays off. Anyways, Rios has a completely pimped out Escalade and it's so low (I don't know if it has hydraulics) but it actually scraped the ground and he actually lost his muffler. They saw this and waved to Rios to pull over but he misinterpreted it as 'fan waving' and drove off. They finally chased him down Bremner to tell him and he was thankful.

I tried Googling the injury. From http://fantasybaseball.usatoday.com/index.php?sport=bsball&type=transandnotes&name=3992 :

Alexis Rios missed Saturday's game due to a sore right shoulder, according to the AP. "I think I did it lifting weights," Rios said, "because I didn't play ball during the offseason." He had an MRI on Saturday and will get the results on Sunday.

It strikes me odd that athletes of this calibre would be using pilates as a workout. It may be good for cardio but impact on the body for strengthening would be negligble to sprints and weight training, no? Maybe it's more for conditioning and endurance for 180 day season.

Yea, I think so. With a young team, I would imagine they want to build on stamina and endurance and try to prevent some of those late summer slumps like with Chulk, Frasor and Rios last year. Not to mention it helps their marketing campaign.
