Today's photograph is Roy Halladay between innings in the Jays dugout, gearing up to come back out:

Theo, Mrs. Hank and I are headed to Washington to catch two of the three Jays vs. Nationals games, Saturday and Sunday. Watch for us in the stands with our cousins, all five of us geared up in Jays jerseys and hats.

As a result, Photo of the Day is going on hiatus until Wednesday, but when it returns it will be in the form of a multi-part photographic record of our trip.

And again I have to send out a gigantic "thank you and I love you" to Rogers Sportsnet for the inspired decision to re-run Jays In An Hour (the extended highlights of the last game) the next day at noon. I cannot be the only stay-at-home dad who is thrilled to be rescued from The Bold and the Beautiful at lunchtime. The other day I had missed most of the game the night before, but I saw virtually all of last night's tilt and I'm still going to tune in for the rerun.

I extend that praise to Rogers SportNet. Can't wait to see those pics of RFK. No sarcasm here, but I really like those old cookie cutter stadiums.

Is it the just the lighting or was Doc actually sporting huge mutton chops that day on the mound?

For those that may not know, Roy has a luxury box called Doc's Box that he invites kids to use on Sundays. If he's not pitching that day he meets up with the kids before the game.

My boss's 9 year old daughter has been fighting leukemia since she was a todler and now needs a bone marrow transplant. Last Sunday she was invited to Doc's Box with her family to take in the Jay's game.

When the families arrived at noon there were T-shirts, caps and balls for everyone. Roy arrived in uniform at 12:30 and spent time with all the kids taking pictures, signing autographs and talking. He was gracious enough to provide my boss with a signed ball and cap to be auctioned off at a charity golf tournament that raises money for leukemia research.

My boss says it was a thrill for everyone and he has nothing but praise for Roy Halladay.

Also, if anyone is interested in joining the bone marrow registry please don't wait. You could save a life. In Canada, contact Canadian Blood Services at 1-888 2Donate or www.bloodservices.ca. In the US, contact the Red Cross.

Jobu, it's not chops -- it joins up at his chin, it's a very full beard.

Tenobia, it's wonderful to hear more details about Doc's Box. Thanks for sharing.

In addition to joining the Bone Marrow registry, Blood Services also runs an apheresis program which collects blood plasma and platelets for people like the girl mentioned above, who need those donations. Unlike whole-blood donations platelets and plasma cannot be stored for more than four or five days, and they are both required for those who are in seriously ill health.

On the topic of beards, I have recieved special news that Eric Hinske, or THE DUDE, was involved in a shaving accident when he lost control of his razor. He shaved too far, and in an attempt to resurrect the situation ended up shaving all of it off. As a result of this shaving mishap, he will no longer be sporting a beard.

Discuss.

I would heartily encourage Hinske to go the House of David route with his facial hair.

Just as long as it doesn't resemble any sort of facial hair that Chris Woodward grew at any point in 2004.
