Josh Towers (15th round, 1996) started for the Jays, and Jeromy Burnitz was one irritating S.O.B.

So Josh wasn't around for the decision, but the good guys prevailed anyway.

And the rest of the division all lost tonight. A good day all around!

A win tomorrow and a .500 road trip is doable.

On the Cub broadcast they were talking about their first round pick, and they mentioned that he signed a contract today. The color man said, 'I guess he's not a Boras client' to which the PBP guy said, 'Actually, he is'.

Some notes:

- Solo home runs don't mean anything so good on Frasor for not losing focus after giving one up. You should really pat yourself on the back for not having anyone on base. As the great John Cerutti used to say late in games with relievers "you'd almost rather have a guy hit a solo home run late in the game than walking the leadoff batter". You give up a solo shot, the next guy's gonna be up there hacking: get him out. Walk a guy, now the pressure's on the pitcher to get it over.

- On Jamie Campbell: Just because Wells was called out at third, and Shea goes on to hit a double DOES NOT mean that the Blue Jays lost a run. Wells being tagged out changes everything that happens after that. Rent the Back to the Future trilogy. The pitcher is more aggressive, the batter is not thinking sac fly, everything changes...

- On Vernon Wells: He probably wouldn't have been called out if he wasn't admiring his fly on the way to first. He only turned on the jets halfway around second, maddening.

- Miguel Batista has teriffic stats.

- If we win tomorrow and sweep the Astros, this road trip is 8-5. Dare to dream.

I've been enjoying the interleague games this week. I haven't heard if it's still on next year or not. This year completes the first 6-year cycle (even though it took MLB 9 years...). I wouldn't mind if they took at least one year off from interleague play, in exchange for an extra series against each team in the Central (to play them as often as the West division teams).

(Unlike many here, I like the unbalanced schedule, playing extra games against the Yanks and Red Sox. I don't care if the wildcard is "unfair". If you want fair, win your division (I know they have a few imbalances for that too, but it's even more minor). And they should dilute the wildcard anyway (have a few more wildcard teams that play-off against each other, an idea that's popular here).)

Fletch has been entertaining on Sportsnet.

I think it is, only that J.P. Riccardi has hinted the fact that our interleague rival next year is going to be Philidelphia instead of Washington. We shall see though.

Michael Barrett: the thought of being swept by the Blue Jays just makes me wanna vomit

You'd think he'd be a little more humble. Christ, he played for the Expos :)

Are we really MLB's scapegoat?

Jim - Wednesday, June 08 2005 @ 12:21 AM EDT (#119063) #
Random things:

1. The Cubs don't realize how bad they are yet. Barrett will see.

2. Phelps got designated for assignment.

3. Frank Robinson might be the best manager in baseball.

Oh and for you transaction/college baseball buffs: Marshall McDougall had his contract purchased by the Rangers. It can be a long road from the CWS to the Show.

I noticed the phelps DFA aswell. Depending on the price, I wouldnt even mind giving phelps another go. With Hill up right now, Do we really need menechino around? I like him a lot, but it doesnt really make sense when you have mcdonald and hill around.

He's the 9th man in the bullpen! A third catcher! A star in the making!

Seriously though, I'm a big Menechino fan, but it might be the best thing to do, Get an extra power bat, that is. With 4 guys (O Dog, Russ, Johnny Mac and Hill) playing 2 positions (yes, I know Hill has only started at 3B) I like the move. Not that it'll happen of course.

I wasn't aware Cox had retired.

I said might didn't I? Cox is a good one for sure, there are also other names that could be in the argument.

Maybe someone more astute can confirm/deny this for me, but it really looked like Towers was using an 88-89mph 2-seamer yesterday to finish off the Cubs in the early innings (the at-bat to Derek Lee sticks in my mind). I like it.

Jamey Newberg is reporting that Texas has designated righthander Ryan Drese for assignment.

The question now is, can we confirm that this is the earliest a team has ever officially given up on and cut ties with its Opening Day starter that same season?

Dewon Brazelton "is orbiting the planet Zortron."

He's gone, but the question is whether or not Tampa Bay has given up on him. I'd say yes.
