So, how about that Reed Johnson? And how about that offense in innings 3 through 9?
I have neither the time nor the resources to do a study like this, but I'll bet that it's a very common thing to see offenses explode in the early innings and put up a bunch of zeroes in the later innings. For a bunch of reasons, really: either the pitcher settles down or he's replaced with a better pitcher, the lesser players (lower in the line-up) show their true colours, and of course, momentum: once it's gone, it's gone.
In fact, we sort of know this is true: zeroes tend to bunch up, and the first inning is the highest-scoring.

Solid win. Pretty fun game to be at with the Jays jumping out to a lead and never really allowing the Cubs back in it. Although it got pretty loud in there in the bottom of the 9th. Some random observations:
Chacin seemed to have great rhythm tonight. He made a few pretty good hitters look pretty bad. He was exciting to watch pitch live with that funky pause in his delivery.
The ball hit by Hill that Hairston dropped...it's a good thing that wasn't hit 15 more feet towards the gap for Jeromy Burnitz, cause he wasn't remotely paying attention. My eyes tracked the ball, I watched Hairston run after it, and Burnitz is still standing there with his hands on his knees. Fairly funny. Did the announcers point it out?
What the heck was the deal with Reed's leadoff AB?
Hill really is into it at third. Every play he gets really deep down in a crouch. He made a few nice plays too. I'm impressed.
There were very few Jays fans on the whole there, but there was a dude in a Halladay jersey and home hat about 15 rows in front of me. I wondered all game if it were a Bauxite or not...
Fun game, I'm excited to go back for tomorrow's.

Thanks for the report.

2-strikes, foul tip, it seems the home plate ump ruled it hit the ground, but the catcher actually caught it (barely, after some juggling), and unusually there was an umpire's meeting and they corrected the call. I guess they don't explain these things to the paying fans very well.
So what happened to the kid gloves being off with Adams? He can't get a start against freakin' John Koronka?
Not when the Jays are losing I guess. I think the team is fighting for it's playoff race life this month. If they can finish June within 3 or 4 games of first they might be able to make a run at things with an effective trade or three.
