We have a pinch-hit Photo of the Day today -- Brad Newbatt has sent us this lovely panorama of Oldsmobile Park, the home of the Lansing Lugnuts:

Click on the image to see a larger version, and then click on that larger image to see an enormous version.

Here are what the distance markers read, courtesy of Bauxite Lugnut Fan:

Left 330'
Centre 412'
Right 337'
The wall in right is 25' high.

Jonny German was there when the image was captured:

"The photo was taken maybe 45 minutes before game time, those are the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on the field warming up. It was a really cold day and attendance was minimal."

Great photo, how old is the park?

That's a pretty sweet looking park for a low-A affiliate. Very nice. Kind of makes me wish I lived near a minor league team.

Gerry,

The park was built in 95. The first year for MWL baseball in Lansing was 96. The sweetest A ball park I have ever seen is in Dayton. It has two decks and is really a AAA stadium.

Great photo indeed. Thanks, Brad and Jonny.

Brad, you should look into getting that shot blown up for posters and sold in the clubhouse store there. Split the profit with the team. Kook into it - seriously. As for Single A Stadiums, check out the brand new digs in Greensboro, NC that the Grasshoppers have there.

Brad, what kind of camera (make/model) did you use to capture that shot? Were you using film or digital? What mm lens did you use?

The nicest A park that I've been to is Veteran's Memorial in Cedar Rapids. It's a good deal better than all of the AAA parks that I've been to save Memphis and OK City.

Thanks for the treat. In Baltimore, the year Camden was opened we saw a series of panoramic ciba prints of a dozen or so minor league parks...superb feeling of being centre-top in the grandstand.

For more on Oldsmobile Park and many others with photos...not as exciting as this one, but excellent, try

Anybody know a site for panoramas of minor league parks?
