From Bauxite Kevin Pataky, we have another great pinch-hit Photo of the Day. Says Kevin:

"We went to the Jays Welcome Home Luncheon on Friday. I got some good pictures of the guys in there too. My favorite is of Gus Chacin holding up his fist with his EL Championship ring on. When I commented on the ring's size, he took it off and flipped it to me. Upon review, the thing looks like a Super Bowl Ring. The top is all encrusted in diamonds wrapped around a Fisher Cat head. His Name and number were carved on the side. It was really well done."

Without a doubt, the coolest looking super villain I have ever seen. Great shot.

He looks like he's about to hurt someone and really enoy it.

sweet pic.

I LOVE the Gusto!

There is just some strange magentic charisma about this kid.

It's weird. His name, his shades, his quirkiness, his performance - just so damn likeable.

Everyone seems to pick up on it - friends of mine from New Hampshire loved him last year, baseball writers from all over the place are giving him plenty of love this year, and of course we're all loving him this year (aside from the cranks who wrote pages and pages of critique on the Batista-to-closer move).

It's more than just his success on the field - people just like the guy.

I can only imagine this charisma extends to his teammates, which can only help in his win totals.

Gus is a very nice guy. He was always very quiet and perhaps a bit shy when he was in New Haven, but he was very much liked by the fans and his teammates. I remember back to the start of Spring Training 2004 when I met up with him in Dunedin and he told me he had the opportunity to be in the bullpen in Syracuse or start a 4th campaign in Double-A, but this time as a starter. He obviously made the right choice and the rest is history.

What's this about purple?

I recall last night seeing Gus on the field just outside the dugout, being excited and congradulating teammates as they came across the plate in the 6th inning. I dont know if this signficant or not, or if it's normal thing for a rookie pitcher to be doing on one of his off days, but I thought it was cool when I saw it.
