While the big club desperately needs a Bull Durham style artificial rainout (maybe the roof on the Skydome will develop a leak), the farm affiliates had 3 cancellations yesterday. Two games (New Hampshire's and Dunedin's) were washed away, and Lansing's tilt with West Michigan was frozen out. No toque, scarf and mitten ball in the Midwest League. Only Syracuse played, and frankly, the Sky Chiefs would have been better off if a freak hailstorm in Scranton had put the kibosh to their game.

Syracuse 1 Scranton WB 8

Scott Downs surrendered 3 spots in the third and fifth inning, and the Chiefs could only manage 5 hits against the fine pitching of Rob Tejeda. Spike Lundberg came on and pitched 2 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits and no walks while striking out 2. Adrian Burnside gave up a 2 run homer to Ryan Howard for the first runs he has allowed this season. Jason Arnold was perfect for an inning to end the blowout. Eric Crozier doubled and scored the only Syracuse run. No Chief hitter reached base twice in the game.

Your 3 star selection is cancelled on account of an absence of stars. Spike Lundberg does get a special citation for fine pitching yesterday and throughout the young season.

Me too. Because right now in London, ON it's snowing. Not just a little, but a lot. When I woke up this morning everything was covered in a couple inches of snow. Weather is weird.

I woke up to the snow on the ground in London just like you, Moffatt, and it makes me ILL! I'm glad I still have vacation time... I need to go buy a plane ticket to somewhere warm... Maybe I'll go visit the baby Jays in Dunedin.

Ick. My choices of appropriate music references were the Temptations and Garbage. Manson for me means Charles, not Marilyn or Shirley, so I went with the Temps.

Today, Chad Gaudin starts for Syracuse, Josh Banks for New Hampshire and David Purcey for Dunedin. There's a little sunshine on a cloudy day.:)

Lansing double header has been snowed out. 6-7 inches has fallen in the area this weekend. Don't know when the games will be made up.

10-2 Dunedin in the 4th right now. Lind is 2-3 so far. Purcey has stuck out 3 and walked nobody which is a good sign.

elsewhere, Skychiefs lead 2-0 thanks to a 2 run shot by Mottola.

New Hampshire is up 2-1 in the 4th in a pitching duel between Petit and Banks.

Josh Banks is stating his case for promotion firmly. He's got 7 Ks in 5 innings of work. Another 3-5 starts and he's ready for the International League, which is just as well because David Purcey looks like he too will be ready for new challenges.

Banks with another solid inning. 8 k's through 6 innings of work now. Only mistake was the homer in the 2nd.

15-2 Dunedin, still in the 6th!!!! Lind is 4 for 5 already, with 3rbi's. his aveage is up to .369

Roberts, Diaz, and Smith each have doubles, and 2rbi's each.

Purcey's night is probably done with the game out of hand.

Fishercats won the first game of the doubleheader by the score of 2-1, Banks with the complete game. 7ip, 2h, 1r, 0bb's, 8 k's. 9 ground ball outs, 3 fly outs. only faced 22 batters, 1 over the minimum of 21. he's now 3-0 on the year.

Adam Lind is a hitting monster, another single, now 5 for 6 today raising his average to .379 on the season. New Hampshire could really use him in their lineup.

Vince Perkins is pitching for New Hampshire in the nightcap of the doubleheader. Josh Banks now has 2 walks and 21 strikeouts in 25 innings of double A work this season.

I was in Toronto this weekend and caught one of the games for hte Yankee series and the first two for the Oriole series. I guess it was a bad weekend to come. The boys kind of squandered a very good start by Chacin on Thursday and well, I guess I don't have much to say about the other two games. Thank God for a dome. That was my first baseball experience indoors and it did take some getting used to. I had a very hard time tracking the ball the first night, but I adjusted to it.

As far as the snow. When I left Mississauga this morning, there was nothing. I hit London there was some snow. I hit Sarnia and it was a freaking blizzard. I have never seen it snow here this late in the year. The Lugnuts have had the past two games snowed out. THey are scheduled to play a double header tomorrow and a double header on Tuesday starting at 5:05. I believe that 6 ot 7 inches total has fallen, but it is melting really fast. There is no frost in the ground and the temps are above freezing so they may play tomorrow, but I'm not holding my breath. If they do not play these over the next two days, I doubt they will make them up. The way the schedule is set in the MWL, it makes it almost impossible for these guys to make up dates and Cedar Rapids would probably have to come back over the course of two off days which they may or may not do. Another alternative is to have them come to Lansing for a double header and then have Lansing go there for a double header which has happened in the past to ease travel schedules. They aren't scheduled to play again until the second half of the season, so if they don't play them now, they more than likely will just scratch them.

I was at the first game of the DH today and it was amazing how quietly Josh Banks was mowing down the B-Mets. I knew he had 6 or 7 K's, but one over the minimum of 21, WOW. He was hitting 88 to 91 MPH on the gun all day, but there didn't seem to be much movement. The off-speed pitches really helped keep the B-Mets off balance.

It was only 75 degrees or so here today in Austin. A little chilly! Here's hoping the D-Jays realize that batting .440 in playing appearances in only half of their games deserves more playing time for Brian Patrick.
