I know that was in a hurry and under pressure, Prof, but I can't resist. Is Hinske playing rover?

Everyone will notice immediately that Wells is getting a day to ponder and reflect on his failings. In Texas, yet. Very interesting.

Many disgruntled grumbles are emanating from the Bronx these days. Does anyone here actually think the Yankees may be in a bit of trouble? I myself don't know what the hell Joe Torre's doing with his bullpen. Tanyon has worked in 7 of the first 11 games - no wonder he got beat up yesterday.

Andrew K - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 01:53 PM EDT (#112228) #
Any particular reason for Wells' absence?

(I'm really quite concerned about his hitting -- it seems to have been dubious through spring as well as the 12 games of this season.)

Heh. I have this inability to proofread my stuff until *after* it's been posted. Even then I tend to only catch one mistake in 5.

This is one of those games where it would be really handy to have Gabe Gross around. I don't like starting Reed against a righty since he has a fair amount of trouble against them. By starting Reed it also leaves the bench short one of their better tactical options.

Is there any thought at all to putting Wells on the DL for a couple of weeks and giving his "ribcage" injury a chance to fully heal? I can't imagine swinging the bat 30 times a day is giving the injured area a chance to rehabilitate itself.

V-Dub needs a day off just like everybody else. I like this move and this lineup. Let's see if batting in the magic 8 spot will get Crash a batting average.

And calling up Gross to fill the roster spot. It may be necessary to do *something*. Wells obviously doesn't want to stop playing because of the injury (I recall an interview to that effect), but I'm not sure that he is being objective about it.

Not that I've heard, but we were all pretty surprised last year when Delgado went on the Dl for a month. With a rib problem.

Melvin Mora takes Kevin Brown deep. Violence, anger, the Bronx. It's just the natural way of things.

My God. Cliff Young is enormous.

What a pleasure to watch a game live again. I still haven't missed a game yet this year, but I've had to watch the rest of the week's games on archive. A couple of them were even Sportsnet casts, which was in most respects pleasant.

But -- full-scale cut-away adverts during the inning? Appalling. Even Fox Sports Net keep their in-game adverts to a small part of the screen. Truly awful.

Anyhoo, my prediction today is a big game for Russ Adams. I'll leave it to you guys to determine what counts as a "big game".

Jordan - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 02:10 PM EDT (#112245) #
I think Wells is sitting for the oldest reason in the book -- give a scuffling player a day off to see if it helps. Sometimes it does and sometime it doesn't, but it's worth a try.

Ribcage injuries are notoriously difficult to diagnose -- they can linger for ages or they can feel better after a night's sleep. The Jays aren't going to DL Wells and lose him for two weeks unless that injury is really bad, and I've seen no indication that it is.

Interesting to see Alex Rios slide all the way up to the 5th spot. Gibbons really doesn't want to touch Eric Hinske, does he? With Hinske's rejuvenation continuing apace, I can't blame the manager for wanting to let sleeping Dudes lie.

This is one of those games where it would be really handy to have Gabe Gross around.

Bingo. Or, as I've said before, Eric Crozier, who can back up in the oufield and at first base. Never mind the discussion about an 11-, 12- or 13-man pitching staff; the Jays have no business carrying just four outfielders.

Joseph Krengel - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 02:10 PM EDT (#112246) #
Well, that high strike makes an ephemeral appearance. Anyone care to set a betting-line on how long in this game it lasts? I'd say that we don't see it again all afternoon.

Chris Young of course. I remember a pitcher named Cliff Young (I think he died in a car crash...)

OK, a prediction. Myers gets a batting average!

Stellers Jay - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 02:14 PM EDT (#112250) #
There was an interesting piece in the SI baseball preview edition about Chris Young. Last summer while he was still pitching in the minors, the Sacremento Kings offered him a guaranteed 2 year contract. He went back and forth on the decision for a while and ultimately stuck with baseball. It must have been quite tempting for a guy riding the buses in AA, to make considerably more money in the immediate future.
Mick Doherty - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 02:14 PM EDT (#112251) #
Prediction: enough of these low-scoring either pitcher's duels or one-sided shutouts; Texas baseball isn't played that way. Somebody wins this one 15-11.

And on the Yankees -- no, not worried yet. My official "worry date" is the old June 15 trading deadline. At that point, you're far enough into the season where .400 baseball is a trend and a ditch to climb out of. Right now, one series sweep and the Yanks could be back in first.
Andrew K - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 02:17 PM EDT (#112253) #
Now that Soriano is on, the baserunning games will begin. I hope that Towers isn't distracted too badly: chances are that he will get the extra base if he tries.
Stellers Jay - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 02:20 PM EDT (#112255) #
Crozier makes a lot of sense especially with how well the starting staff has been throwing. The Jays haven't had an off day in 10 days and there are at least 6 arms in the pen that legitimately need work today. The 12th arm in the pen whether it be League, Walker, or Chulk is really unnecessary.
Magpie - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 02:20 PM EDT (#112256) #
And on the Yankees -- no, not worried yet.

And just as he typed those words, Miguel Tejada hit a GS off Brown to put the Orioles up 6-0 in the second.

This Texas club can hit a little too. But they're really not that good an offensive team - this ballpark (and US Cellular or wherever the hell the White Sox play) skews the numbers, big-time.

Craig B - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 02:23 PM EDT (#112258) #
Young was one of the best centers in the history of the Ivy League, and is probably the finest ever player in the "Princeton offense" (which the Kings run - former Princeton coach Pete Carril is a Kings assistant coach).

The center is the key player in the Princeton offense because he distributes the ball out of the high post, essentially taking over most of the role that in most offenses is played by the point guard. It's not surprising that Sacto would want Young - he was terrific at it.

In the end, I'd bet he'll be a better pitcher.
Craig B - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 02:26 PM EDT (#112259) #
So far this year, Texas are dead average offensively on a park-adjusted basis. Last season, they were 11th in the AL. (The three best offenses were New York, Boston and Cleveland, with Detroit just a touch behind).

Is it too late to make a prediction? That Towers gets knocked about, in this game?

It's not looking so good today. If Young carries on pitching anywhere near as well as the first inning, the Jays could be about to fall behind Baltimore -- who, realistically, are the real rivals this season.
StephenT - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 02:35 PM EDT (#112263) #
You hear talk of wanting to "win" every series, but if you "just" do the minimum to "not lose" a series, i.e. split the 2-game and 4-game series, and win 2 of 3 in the 3-game series, then the team would still win ~100 games.
Magpie - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 02:37 PM EDT (#112264) #

Ok a couple of dumb moments in this game. One is Josh Towers watching Hank Blalock pull everything foul. So instead of pitching him offspeed to get him more out front he throws hard inside and gets taken deep.

Another is Orlando Hudson batting with a 3-1 count and his team down by SIX runs. He should not be swinging the bat unless he gets a pitch down the heart of the plate. He swings at a fastball sinking down towards his ankles and grounds out weakly to second to end the rally. Way too many of those kinds of at bats for Hudson this year. You need better at bats out of the 2-hole.
Magpie - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 02:55 PM EDT (#112270) #
The Rangers are 8-14 (.571) this afternoon, and are slugging 1.143.

Sparky's been hit 8 times now, and has yet to draw a walk. I'm wondering how many times a guy gets on base more often by HBP rather than BB. As a rookie, Sparky went 20-20; last year he had 28 BB and "just" 12 HBP. For his career, he's now drawn 48 BB and been drilled 40 times.

Well, let's look. Ron Hunt didn't do it, not even when he was hit 50 times. No, not Charlie O'Brien or Ed Sprague. Or Don Baylor. Craig Biggio, the active leader hasn't even come close. Neither has Jason Kendall.

Hugh Jennings, who holds the single season record of 51, managed it three years in a row: 1895-97.

For all I know, we may be seeing something historic...

Rod Black uncorked a good one a few minutes ago. Cat's error-that-wasn't in the first, according to him, "gave the Rangers an extra out." Honestly. Not all errors are plays where outs should have been recorded.

I tried to calculate Josh Towers' Game Score, but I don't think there are any numbers below absolute zero.

Craig B - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 03:03 PM EDT (#112274) #
Jennings has 51 HBP and 19 walks in 1896. Dan McGann had 23 HBP and 16 walks in 1901. A few others did the trick in the 19th century.

For modern players, Mike Kinkade had 16 HBP and 13 walks in 2003 - in just 191 PA. Kinkade would have beaten Hunt's record at that pace, if he'd had a full season.

Sal Fasano had 16 HBP and 10 walks in 1998.

I tried to calculate Josh Towers' Game Score, but I don't think there are any numbers below absolute zero.

Ah - a challenge!

Start with 50
Add 1 point for every batter the pitcher retires: +6, 56
Add 2 points for each inning the pitcher completes after the fourth inning: 0, 56
Add 1 point for each strikeout: 0, 56
Subtract 1 point for each walk: 0, 56
Subtract 2 points for each hit: -16, 40
Subtract 4 points for each earned run: -24, 16
Subtract 2 points for each unearned run: 0, 16

Game Score = 16

Not so good.

Magpie - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 03:14 PM EDT (#112278) #
Ricciardi is talking to Jerry Howarth right now. Says Quiroz should start playing again in about a week. And then the inning ended.
R Billie - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 03:24 PM EDT (#112280) #
JP is talking about the at bats given away and today is a fine example. The team has been down by 6 runs and now 5 runs and instead of trying to work the pitcher as hard as possible (and Young isn't a pinpoint control guy) they've been swinging early in counts or swinging at poor pitches even when they get ahead in counts.

You can't control how much power or bat speed you have but you can control your gameplan at the plate. You can decide to take two strikes while your team is so far behind. You can decide to focus on one pitch in one area when you're ahead in the count and lay off all others.
bird droppings - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 03:25 PM EDT (#112281) #

A couple of things on Chris Young and the Sacramento Kings ...

First, the Rangers did step up and give him a $100,000 raise to stay with baseball, and though he certainly would've gotten more from the Maloof Brothers, that's not insignificant.

And I don't expect that Toronto broadcasts would necessarily have this information, but Young grew up in Highland Park, a VERY well-to-do neighborhood in the Metroplex (Aikman lived there; A-Rod lived there; Modano lives there). Where he grew up tells me that it's unlikely big money could have lured him from what Grieve and Lewin say is the favourite baseball team of his entire family.
R Billie - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 03:27 PM EDT (#112283) #
Again Cat swinging at almost every pitch that at bat. He singled but really he had only one strike thrown to him in that at bat.

Now Hudson singles to right on a pitch around his shoetops on the first pitch. It worked that time but that's not a good approach when you're down 5 runs.
Magpie - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 03:31 PM EDT (#112284) #

R Billie - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 03:39 PM EDT (#112291) #
Gotta get a pinch hitter in there for Myers against the lefty. Menechino? Why not Zaun?

A bit of bad luck there as Johnson's linedrive went off the pitcher instead of into centerfield. That cost the Jays an additional run on the play. Jays did catch a break on Shea's dunk single though.

It's unfortunate, Koskie's strikeout looms large in this inning.

I love this. Gibbons knows he has team that possesses a whole number of players who are essentially on the same plain (Zaun, Myers, Menechino, Sparky, etc) but who have a better chance to deliver in certain situations -- and he uses them in exactly that light.

On a different note...Ironically, the Bluejays.com homepage shows that Walker was slated to start for the Jays today.

Menechino? Why not Zaun?

I was wondering myself, and went straight to the 3 year splits. Against LH, Zaun has a better BAVG (.291 to .268) but Menchino has way more pop - 9 HRs over the three years. Zaun has 0 HRs batting RH.

Of course, when just a hit is pretty good... Anyway, Frankie drives one in. But I don't understand McDonald hitting. Zaun has to come into the game, and he's a better hitter than McDonald.

Maybe he hadn't made it into the dugout yet...

Stellers Jay - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 03:46 PM EDT (#112299) #

R Billie - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 03:47 PM EDT (#112302) #
I would have used Zaun as a pinch hitter for Adams rather than MacDonald. You have to bring Zaun in for Myers anyway and I'd rather have him hitting with the bases loaded than Mac.
Magpie - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 03:49 PM EDT (#112303) #
But if Zaun PHs for Adams, then who plays SS? O-Dog?

Well, you could either leave Menechino there, hitting 8th and playing SS or put in McDonald for Menechino. Something went wrong there.

R Billie - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 03:51 PM EDT (#112304) #
Andrew, you pinch hit Menechino for Myers, then you pinch hit Zaun for Adams, then you move Zaun to catcher and take Menechino out of the game and you bring in MacDonald to play short.
Mike Green - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 03:51 PM EDT (#112305) #
I wasn't crazy about Gibbons' decision to pinch-hit for Adams with McDonald. I would have preferred in that situation that Zaun pinch-hit. He was coming into the game anyway, and Zaun's a much better hitter against a lefty. In particular, he's much more patient, and the bases were loaded. I guess Gibbons likes sticking with the hot hand.
Andrew K - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 03:52 PM EDT (#112306) #
Oh okay, I forgot that Menechino could play SS as well as everywhere else.

Yes, that was a weird couple of substitutions.
Keith Talent - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 03:54 PM EDT (#112307) #

I would have used him instead of McDonald in that situation.

You're more patient than I. I probably would have put in Wells instead of Menechino; and Wells probably would have swung at the first pitch... Menechino does draw clutch walks.

But really, why wasn't Vernon ready to PH? I saw a shot of him in the dugout and he wasn't even wearing a game jersey. Even if you're giving a guy a day off, you'd like to keep all your options open...

Ryan C - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 03:54 PM EDT (#112308) #
But if Zaun PHs for Adams, then who plays SS? O-Dog?

Menechino can play SS can't he? But putting McDonald in gives you better defense which is important in a close game. I suppose it's a matter of weighing the value of 3 innings of superior defense at SS vs the value of Menechino getting (likely) one more AB and having McDonald on your bench to use later.

Magpie - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 03:55 PM EDT (#112309) #
I guess Gibbons likes sticking with the hot hand.

Zaun's been pretty hot himself. I wonder if he was in the bullpen when the inning started. I wonder how long it takes to get to the dugout. The duration of the Menechino at bat?

I'm accepting no other explanation!

R Billie - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 03:56 PM EDT (#112310) #

Mick, aren't you worried about Torre's bullpen management? His ancient pattern, of working his favourites like dray horses and forgetting everybody else, is asserting itself very early.

This year, he seems to have decided Quantrill is a bum. Q, as we all remember, is much better when he works a lot (but not when he works as much as Torre worked him last year.) Anyway, Q finally gets into a game today and, being rusty, gets hit (retired one of four batters) which should guarantee that he doesn't pitch again for another five days. Stanton, an old Torre favourite, comes in for the second day in a row to get the LH. For the second day in a row, he walks the guy on five pitches. Steve Karsay comes in, for just the 3rd time this season, and gives up an RBI base hit. Yankees throw out the second runner at the plate, and then Karsay gets the third out.

He's lost it, old Joe. Your manager has lost his mind!

Aw crap. Does Teixeira make that play?

Hinske has come back to reality... with a thudd!

Oh well, still 2 innings to go!
Magpie - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 04:17 PM EDT (#112318) #
We were discussing the other day Jack McKeon's intention to stop babying his starting pitchers - who include Josh Beckett, A.J. Burnett, and Al Leiter, all of whom have injury histories dating back to roughly when each of them learned to shave.

Burnett throws his second straight CG this afternoon, just 105 pitches. So far, so good.

Good inning for Schoeneweis - he's looked better when he's had a little rest.

Useless Tyler - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 04:21 PM EDT (#112319) #
Well, I was just writing a nice long message about how great this team is when they refuse to give up.

And they hit into a double play. I've got to stop getting enthusiastic - it's POISON!
Sherrystar - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 04:25 PM EDT (#112321) #
I still think you want Adams up there instead of McDonald.

Gonna be a fun 9th!
Useless Tyler - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 04:27 PM EDT (#112322) #
Can somebody PLEASE explain this jays marketing campaign to me?

I mean - last year's was great - you had the players, you recognized that they couldn't act so you gave them few to no lines, and you made them funny.

This year, THEY DON'T MAKE ANY SENSE.

AND WHERE DID THOSE CRAZY PUPPETS COME FROM?

I feel like I'm living in a cuckoo clock!
TorontoDan - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 04:28 PM EDT (#112323) #
The puppets are just an insane "idea" I put ideas in quotes because it's probably something they came up with high at a focus group meeting. I just don't get it. Much like the decision to have dancers on top of the dugouts, the puppets are a decision that could be only be made by the confusing jays marketing team.
Keith Talent - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 04:29 PM EDT (#112324) #
Magpie, everytime I look up it seems a Marlin SP has a CG win.
Keith Talent - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 04:30 PM EDT (#112325) #
Like the puppets. Like the ads. Last year's ads were so boring and sterile.
Magpie - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 04:31 PM EDT (#112326) #
Win or lose, outstanding job by the pen today. Stopped the bleeding, the offense got a few runs on the board. Go to the ninth down a run, top of the order coming to the plate... it's a lot better than things looked a couple of hours ago.

Of course, Co-Co looked just filthy the other night. He may have solved his problems.

Useless Tyler - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 04:34 PM EDT (#112327) #
Regardless of the result, every loss by this team this year has been at the very least close, and they've never given up.

8-5 is nothing bad for the Fighting Jays.
Gardiner West - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 04:38 PM EDT (#112328) #
As losses go, this one was a lot easier to swallow. Falling behind 6-0, this team would have folded up their tents a year ago.

But the improved bullpen and their ability to claw back into games once again showed that this team will be tough to put away.

If they continue to play this plucky brand of ball, it's going to be a fun summer!!
DMay - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 04:53 PM EDT (#112329) #
Magpie, you're right. If the bullpen can hold up this season, we're gonna be in great shape. in my mind, Towers is the only question mark for the starters. Batista will firm up as closer and we will get our runs (especially when our 3-4 hitters get going). All in all, it's been an exciting start to the season.

Boston at 11:00am tomorrow? What is that?
Mike Green - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 04:53 PM EDT (#112330) #
Yes. It was a loss, but one that had some positives to draw from, being the ability of the bullpen to shut down the Rangers and the offence to generate some runs.
Rob - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 04:55 PM EDT (#112331) #
Boston at 11:00am tomorrow? What is that?

An unfortunate start for anyone who must write a Game Report while sitting in a desk in room 303.

It's actually something to do with the Boston Marathon and Patriot's Day in Boston.

Jordan - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 05:13 PM EDT (#112334) #
Gutsy job by the Jays today, and great work by the bullpen. Nonetheless, John McDonald batted twice today in critical situations -- once as a pinch-hitter. The words "now pinch-hitting, John McDonald" should never be used around this team. A fifth outfielder on the roster would give the manager the flexibility to deal with lefty-righty matchups late in the game, especially when the starting CF is getting the day off. The Jays should at least consider it.
Andrew S - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 05:22 PM EDT (#112335) #
I don't know why everyone's all over the new ads. Sure, they're a little esoteric, but they're fun. And all of you are left wondering what's going on with the ads? What better way than to draw people out to see the Blue Jays then to have ads that leaving them wondering about the Blue Jays?
TorontoDan - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 05:47 PM EDT (#112336) #
Hah, that's true. I have no problems with the ads themselves, odd as they might be. They're kind of charming. It's just the puppets I don't get.
Dave Till - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 05:47 PM EDT (#112337) #

I guess it depends on whether the starting pitching is going to remain reliable, or whether there are going to be more outings like today's. A team doesn't really ever need 12 pitchers; it either needs 10 pitchers (if the starters are going well) or it needs 13 pitchers (if they're getting bombed).

I only listened to the first and last innings of this game. Nice to see the Fighting Jays make a game of it, and there's nothing wrong with splitting a 4-game series in Texas.

Ron - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 05:55 PM EDT (#112338) #
Looks like Hinske is coming back down to earth, going 1 for 16 in his last 5 games. I say it's time to trade him:)

I didn't like the decision to bring in J-Mac with the sacs drunk. I thought Zaun would have been the better option or to just let Adams hit.

I've been impressed with Walker this season. He's yet to give up a run and he looks very relaxed out there.

I don't like having to get up at 8am to watch tommorow's game, but I'm excitied to see how the Jays fare against the streaking Red Sox.
Braby21 - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 06:17 PM EDT (#112339) #
I love getting up @ 11am to watch the Jays play on TV.

I would've liked to see Vernon pinch hit instead of McDonald, but I probably would've pinch hit him instead of Menechino as well, so what do I know?
Andrew S - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 06:37 PM EDT (#112340) #
I get out of the final exam of my undergraduate career at 11 am ... but the walk home, plus going out to buy steaks and some good vintage ... Well, I hope we're winning when I get around to the game.
CaramonLS - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 06:38 PM EDT (#112341) #

Missed this game. Looking at the boxscore, I'm obviously pleased to see that although the Jays lost, they were right in it until the end. Even after falling behind 6-0 they clawed their way to 6-5. A couple of breaks and I'm sure they could have tied or won the game too. The Jays really have had a good chance to win each game this year.

StephenT - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 07:24 PM EDT (#112345) #
The Red Sox feed of the 11am game tomorrow is being picked up on the Rogers promotional channels again. On Rogers Digital Cable here in Ottawa, the Interactive Guide says it's on channels 01 (INFO), 66 (PROMO), 85 (PROMO), 463 (SPO33 of MLB Extra Innings) and 866 (DIGB). Channel 66 is also carried on basic cable in Ottawa.

Magpie, over the last two days you've incorrectly reported Reed Johnson's HBP. He had one today, three yesterday, and one on April 8 by Keith Foulke. The eight is not correct, sorry.

The next two series are likely where we'll finally see the Jays lose a series. Two 2 game series, facing Boston & NY? Odds are good they'll get swept in one.

Bush vs Schilling, good shot at a win if Schilling is off, could be shut out though if he is back to form.
Halladay vs Arroyo, like the odds of winning this one as Arroyo is a good #4 starter, maybe a #3.

Lilly vs Pavano, could go either way as Lilly still hasn't pitched much while Pavano can be very good. A loss here wouldn't surprise me.
Chacin vs Mussina, odds are this is where Chacin will finally look like a rookie. However, Moose has been showing his age (36) this year (8-11 W-K ratio vs better than 1-3 lifetime) so we can hope.

Thus I'm betting the winning/tieing every series continues through Boston but hits a roadblock vs the Yankees. I could be wrong (hopefully I am about the Yankee series) but lets hope not.

Fun stat - the Yankees have allowed more runs than any other team in the AL East so far, by 13 or more than a run a game while score less than all but Tampa Bay (3 run lead on Tampa). The Jays are best for runs scored and runs allowed. Lets hope they keep sleeping for another week.
VBF - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 08:50 PM EDT (#112351) #
It is a good sign to see that the Jays are fighting out every game. This team could be 12-1 right now, but frustrating, close games will happen to all teams regardless. I would suspect that come 2006 and 2007 when we can get a couple big names and when the younger players develop further, we can finish these come from behind games with a win. Good to see though. It could be alot worse.

Steinbrenner:

Enough is enough. I am bitterly disappointed as I'm sure all Yankee fans are by the lack of performance by our team. It is unbelievable to me that the highest-paid team in baseball would start the season in such a deep funk. They are not playing like true Yankees. They have the talent to win and they are not winning. I expect Joe Torre, his complete coaching staff and the team to turn this around.

Can somebody PLEASE explain this jays marketing campaign to me?

AND WHERE DID THOSE CRAZY PUPPETS COME FROM?

Agreed. It seems the marketing campaign is all over the map. The puppets are just bizarre.

And I thought they were going to be marketing to women this year. Then the strange puppet ads and appearances by Slash and The Trailer Park Boys at the home opener. This all appears to be aimed at guys.

On BlueJays.com it says...

@ BOS
11:05 AM
Rogers Ont

I'm assuming that's not Sportsnet Ontario? So its only the promotional channels? Anyone know if it will be on Bell ExpressVu?
King Ryan - Sunday, April 17 2005 @ 11:28 PM EDT (#112357) #
On my digital package thingie it shows all four sportsnet channels, and all of them are playing sportsnet news tomorrow at that time. So yeah, it's gotta be something else. Which sucks for those of us that live in BC and don't get Rogers, but oh well. I probably won't be awake at 8AM anyways. :-)
