Joey Wolfe one-ups Gregg Zaun, the D-Jays fire on all cylinders and the Fisher Cats got into the win column on a very satisfying 3-1 day for the farm affilliates.

Rochester 2 Syracuse 1

Francisco Rosario had a rough first inning, surrendering a homer and two doubles after two were out, but settled down and threw six nice innings (6 hits, no walks, 7 strikeouts). The Sky Chiefs could not muster any kind of attack against ex-Jay farmhand, lefty Dave Gassner. Bryant Nelson and Eric Crozier had two hits each for the Sky Chiefs, who managed 7 hits and no walks on the day. Aaron Hill went 1-4 and made his 3rd error of the season. Adrian Burnside followed Rosario with 2 innings of one-hit ball, walking nobody and striking out 3. A large opening day crowd of over 13,000 watched.

Julius Matos' suspension

New Hampshire 3 New Britain 2

The Fisher Cats notched their first win of the season in dramatic fashion. Kevin Barker's 2 run double with 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth was the deciding blow. Carlo Cota homered, and later singled in front of Barker's double. Miguel Negron had the other F-Cat hit, as New Hampshire won despite being outhit 11-4. Vince Perkins started and went 5 shutout innings, allowing 4 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 3. Jamie Vermilyea was touched for 6 hits and 2 earned runs in 2.2 innings, with the key blow a 2 run double by Alex Romero, who reached base 4 times for the Rock Cats. Lee Gronkiewicz pitched the last inning and a third for the win, allowing 1 hit and no walks, while striking out 2.

Kevin Gray's Union Leader Game Story

Dunedin 8 Clearwater 2

The D-Jays rapped out 15 hits, and drew 5 walks, en route to an easy victory over the Threshers. Brian Patrick, Eric Arnold, and Clint Johnson had 3 hits each. Adam Lind doubled twice in 5 plate appearance and drove in 2 runs. Joey Reiman homered and walked twice. Mike MacDonald pitched 5 shutout innings, but then began to fade in the sixth inning. He allowed 2 earned runs in 5 plus innings on 3 hits, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Danny Core came on for the final four innings and recorded the long save with a great 1 hit, 1 walk and 5 strikeout performance.

Lansing 8 Fort Wayne 6

Lansing's hopes of maintaining its perfect record did not look good entering the ninth inning, as they trailed 6-2. The Lugnuts rallied with 4 hits and a walk to narrow the score to 6-4, and had the bases full and 2 outs for Joey Wolfe. In this classic situation Wolfe did not disappoint, delivering the game-winning grand slam. Christian Snavely doubled twice and walked, and Yuber Rodriguez and Jason Armstrong each had 2 hits. Kyle Yates started for the Lugnuts and was roughed up for 5 earned runs in 5 innings of work on 6 hits and 1 walk with 2 strikeouts. Jordy Templet got the win with a solid inning of relief, and Danny Hill, the Lugnut closer, pitched the ninth for the save.

Bauxite Jim854 was at yesterday's game, and reports that Brad Mumma pitched for Dunedin, but Mumma's name did not show up in the boxscore on milb.com.

Baseball America is now publishing boxscores, but indicates that they are "in beta". Oh joy.

Today's schedule features 3 early games and a 3 o'clock game for Lansing:

-Syracuse (Glynn) visits Rochester
-NH (Reimers) hosts New Britain
-Dunedin (Isenberg) visits Clearwater
-Lansing (Cheng) visits Fort Wayne

Maldoff, if you look back at Fridays minor league update you will see where Dick Scott talked about how McGowan is starting to throw breaking pitches in Florida. Scott would not put a timetable on McGowan's return. He did say he is throwing well though.
