Today in Spring Training action the Jays take on the mighty Reds, a team tabbed to battle it out for the big potato this October by a certain Batter's Box analyst who will remain nameless to protect his reputation.

Unfortunately, the Toronto Raptors, a team that's actually playing a regular season sport, have forced this game off of the dial in Toronto. The good news is that it appears that the Fan network is carrying the game on their other channels, so if you've got a radio with decent reception you should be able to pull in a signal even if you're a Torontonian.

I'm within the GTA so all I have is the Raptors broadcast. I'm currently listening online at WLW out of Cincinatti. Sounds like the pregame show. Hopefully this works. I'm crossing my fingers.

P.S. If anyone can dial in on the radio within the GTA and get the game, hook me up with the station :)

I've tried 980 Kruz in Peterborough (god I hate this town) and they're not carrying it... at least not yet.

The link I posted above is carrying the game. Good sound quality too. GO JAYS!

570 in Kitchener is airing the Raptors game too. Methinks the Cincy feed is the only way to get in on the action.

Top of the first: Towers is starting. D'Angelo Jimenez leads off, takes a strike and grounds out to Hudson. Rich Aurilia falls behind 0-2 and flies out weakly to center. Sean Casey grounds out sharply to second to end the inning.

I missed the lineups - is Gross playing today?

CJCS has the best stream for most games. Just click on the "Real Audio - Listen Up!" button on the left hand side. The only downside is Real Audio is needed. I heard at least one of you groan. ;)

Bottom of the first: Aaron Harang is on the mound. Cat leads off works a full count but waves at the seventh pitch down and in for a strikeout. Hudson takes a ball and grounds out to second. Wells grounds out to third on a 3-2 fastball to end the inning.

The Cincy guys are singing the praises of Tubby Smith and debating whether Kentucky's going all the way this year. I'm switching feeds.

So this fall I paid $14.95 for MLB.tv so I could watch the playoffs on my computer. Well, I just found out that my password still works and I'm able to watch ST games; my conscience is punching me in the brain so I think I better stop watching or buy a new subscription....

Still, it's a little strange that my password still works even though I had only paid for the playoffs...

Ligtenberg seems to be calming down a bit... Here hoping that he can keep up this consistency throughout the season so that one day we can consider his signing NOT a bust.

A lot of things seemed to go right today for the Jays, I hope they can keep it up. Because of their lack of experience and power in the lineup, they're going to need days like this from their starter/pen.

I'm sorry to hijack the game thread, but I couldn't find a suitable thread.

Peter Gammons spoke at great length about the steroid controversey, and really slammed major league baseball's leadership (both owner and player). However, he made a comment that confused me.

Gammons spoke of steroids in connection with the 1993 World Series. Does anyone remember what the connection was there? Was it maybe Darren Daulton or one of the Phillies? Or, god forbid, was it one of our beloved Blue Jays heroes?

Does anyone know?

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gammons/story?id=2016532

"And once steroids were made illegal in 1991 and in the next two years the subject was widely discussed -- like at the 1993 World Series -- where was Bud Selig to investigate?"
Braby21 - Sunday, March 20 2005 @ 05:09 PM EST (#106802) #
One thing I remember is Danny Jackson doing the "Incredible Hulk" after a win. After seeing that, I was convinced he was on roids.
Ken Kosowan - Sunday, March 20 2005 @ 05:14 PM EST (#106805) #
I've found a few pieces of information. I've found anecdotal information about Pete Incaviglia and Lenny Dykstra being suspected of using steroids; but nothing concrete... (then again, if it was concrete; we'd have heard about it on ESPN, no?)

Apparently, Lenny Dykstra's casual references to "some really neat vitamins" fueled such suspicions.

I don't have any evidence, nor do I have a desire to come down on the 1993 Phillies; but I do have a curiosity.

Mr. Gammons has mentioned it; does anyone else remember anything?

There is nothing concrete, but Larry Bowa quoted in a Cincinnati newspaper that one unidentified member of the 93 Reds used steroids.

Sorry to hijack...but I was wondering if anyone has seen this video?

Harry Muir, one of the 3 players in the movie, is my coach (for the London Majors in the ICL.) I was surprised to find this after I googled him.

I've seen the documentary a couple of times, I believe it originally aired on CBC. It's a good look into minor league life, and it's especially interesting to see the different perspectives from prospects on the way up vs. long-time minor league veterans still hanging on to the dream.

If my memory serves me correctly, these players were at A level St. Catherines, back when the Jays still had a semi-local team.

Anybody get a chance to see the Jays in their green threads? I wonder if the BullPen store might carry that hat as a novelty.
DaveInNYC - Sunday, March 20 2005 @ 10:27 PM EST (#106823) #
Haven't seen it mentioned yet, but Guillermo Quiroz has been optioned down to AAA. I guess it means Myers is ready, and I really like this move, GQ could use the AB's at AAA.

3 others were optioned down as well.

Yes, I saw "Chasing the Dream" years ago when it first aired on TV. I remember discussing it with the people I watched it with and we agreed that Stewart was the one most likely to make it, so we have felt clever since. It was a nice piece at the time but I don't know if it would be very interesting nowadays, unless of course you know someone who's in it.
It is one of those items that could be made for any team, any year, but I can't imagine a Canadian network going to the expense right now. And that's sad.
Another TV program of possible interest was on PBS last year. It followed a US team from California all the way through their season to the Little League World Series. One of their coaches was Mark Eichhorn. It had an obvious title like "A Little League Season", or something of that sort, and it was quite interesting.
