Split squads today -- half the team is hosting the Phillies, and the other half is visiting Minnesota. Again. How many times do we have to play those guys? It's like they're the Spring Training Yankees.

One of the two games is being webcast for free at bluejays.com.

so is anyone seeing how to access the game on the bluejays website? cause I ain't (though I may be just blind).

I was going to ask the same. I can see how to do it if I want to pay for it...

Here's the gameday audio section, but I don't see where it's being broadcast for free:

I'm sure starting in 2006 that this heated rivalary will surpass any Oiler/Flames, Argo/Ti-Cats,or Yankee's/Boston type traditional matchups.

Did I ever mention how much I hate un-balanced schedules.

Ok for accessing the free broadcast what you got to do is

I have no idea either!

I don't think it is a free webcast. I clicked on Audio, and then clicked on the Toronto link, and it said I need to buy MLB audio. I think you get Spring Training for "free", when you buy it.

Bush got'em three up three down in first.

Catalonotto single erased on Adams double play.

Heading to top of second.

No info on other split squad game.

who's winning the Jays game? Can i have details as well... Gross lighting it up again?

Laloosh
H8 The Braves - Tuesday, March 08 2005 @ 01:24 PM EST (#105153) #
Gross isn't in the lineup in dunedin

1-0 Phillie top of second

(Lead off double, followed by infield hit, 1st and third after flyout, followed by Adams error, runners 1st and second with one out)
H8 The Braves - Tuesday, March 08 2005 @ 01:26 PM EST (#105155) #
Bush gets out of the inning. 1-0 Phillie. Don't know if run was earned due to Adams error. There was a runner on third with one out when play occurred.

During his Jays Talk on Sunday, Wilner kept saying we could listen to Tuesday's game at bluejays.com, but he never said it would cost $15 USD. A little misleading, no?
H8 The Braves - Tuesday, March 08 2005 @ 01:46 PM EST (#105162) #
1-0 Phillie in top of third.

I know Hinske got a base hit in bottom of second, but then I had to answer the phone. Menechino must have ended the inning.

Runners now 1st and second for Phillie. Two down now. Second out was strike out, but I'm not sure who is pitching.
H8 The Braves - Tuesday, March 08 2005 @ 01:50 PM EST (#105163) #
Top of third over, as Coskie traps a ball at third and throws out batter.

If Bush is done, his line should be 1 run, 3 hits, 1 walk, in three innings. Don't know how many k's. And the run might be unearned due to the Adams error.
H8 The Braves - Tuesday, March 08 2005 @ 01:54 PM EST (#105166) #
Update: The run was earned. Adams booted a double play ball that could have ended the inning

The updates are much appreciated, H8. Thanks.

Bottom of third. Crash walks, sparky singles, both advance on Cat. ground out. 2nd and 3rd with one out.

No one wants to pay more than a dollar or two for tickets, no one wants to pay to listen to the games-10cents per game, if you listened to one every day-and everyone complains that the payroll isn't enough, and that Rogers is cheap.

"No one wants to pay more than a dollar or two for tickets, no one wants to pay to listen to the games-10cents per game, if you listened to one every day-and everyone complains that the payroll isn't enough, and that Rogers is cheap."

It is more than just a dollor or two for tickets. Being a student in Ottawa, it is not an option going to the game because the travel and ticket cost is too high. But I do go to some Lynx games to watch the Skychiefs.

As for the radio feed, I think people are upset because they thought it was going to be for free. And I don't care if it is only $18 bucks. If I can get regular season on TV and radio for free, there is no point in MLB Radio.

It is in the 9th in the Minnesota game as well with the Jays up by one so we could sweep the day and go to 5-1. I know it is only spring training, but it is still fun to say that.

You seem a little antagonistic, Tyler. Something wrong?

"Everyone complains that the payroll isn't enough" doesn't make a lot of sense when there was just a huge increase in the payroll. "Nobody wants to pay more than two dollars" makes no sense, because there are thousands of fans paying more than that for every single game of the season. I'm not sure which people you are referring to, but I'm not sure of a lot of things in this crazy world we live in.

I made a throwaway comment about Mike Wilner's misleading comments from Sunday -- and I like Wilner, so it's not part of a hidden agenda -- and you make it sound as if I'm a cheap bastard who won't pay for anything and blasts Rogers for not increasing the payroll.

And while we're at it, Rogers is not cheap. Ever hear of something called a 3-day rental of a new release?

Tyler - Tuesday, March 08 2005 @ 05:48 PM EST (#105234) #

It's not you so much as the group. Go back and look at the monster discussion about the season pass, and the complaining about it being (at the time) discontinued for the 2005 season. I can't see how Wilner's comment was misleading-the game was available on bluejays.com, no? You're unhappy because you assumed it was free. This seems to be a common complaint around here-MLB and Rogers want to make money from their products.

The payroll thing...I think we'd all agree that it would be ludicrous to add payroll now, but it's still something that people were bellowing for all winter. Hillenbrand is a giant waste of money-Dudek is looking rather prescient right now in his comments about Gross being blocked, although it's obviously very early.

Frank Markotich - Tuesday, March 08 2005 @ 05:52 PM EST (#105235) #
Nooo! The Blue Jays are wasting wins in March. They need to lose a few, dammit. But not too many, that's not good either. A .500 Spring Training record, that's about right.

However, i'm not going to pay 15 USD to listen to the few games i can't listen to because they aren't being broadcast on the fan.

My feelings exactly. I've paid the extra buck to get all four Sportsnets; I pay an extra $2.99 monthly to get a high-quality digital feed of the Fan 590 for the nice stereo at home; I've purchased Season's Passes the past two seasons and the only thing stopping me from doing it this season is that I'm a new dad and won't have time to go to a looney number of games.

If I had an extra $15 US, sure, I might sign up for gameday just for these spring training games. I'll admit, I considered it. But I will not use this service at all for the rest of the year, so I'm not getting it.

I'm not stingy or cheap with my baseball money -- I'm practical.

Sorry, I'm confused. I thought the consensus was that we'd be happy to have it back at twice the price, and that's what they gave us and we were happy with the price doubling. I don't recall a single complaint about the Jays doubling the price of the Season's Pass.

I think you'd want to look at who was bellowing that and what the response to them was.

Responding to the news about AJ Burnett saying he'd love to come to Toronto.:

This is very good and very different. It looks like Brad Arnsberg is a very respected pitching coach for most everyone he's ever taught. I'd love to see a rotation of Halladay, Lilly, Burnett, Bush and McGowen in 2006. I hope J.p. can try and swing a trade to bring A.j. here before he becomes a free agent so we can try and reach a longterm contract with him.

The Kids travelled to play Minnesota today. The Jays had only four hits, Rios HR, Gross went 2-2, and young Adam Lind was 1-1.

Jason Arnold made his first appearance allowing just one runner. Rosario allowed a couple of hits in his inning. Zack Jackson allowed a hit. Purcey allowed a couple of walks and Izzy Ramirez pitched a perfect ninth for the save.
Ryan C - Tuesday, March 08 2005 @ 07:32 PM EST (#105243) #
Hillenbrand is a giant waste of money

I disagree. Im not a huge Hillenbrand fan or anything but I like that the Jays actually went out and got a hitter to plug a hole. Let's say we dont get Hillenbrand and instead call up Gross to play LF (Cat moves to DH). Then at the first sign of injury to Hinske/Koskie/Cat/Gross/Rios, you've either got Reed or Menechino batting in the lineup every single day, not terrible, I like both those guys but not as everyday players. A second injury leaves you I dont want to know where. You dont have a Gross or Rios in the minors to call up this year because they're both already on the team. Hill might be close but he hasnt even played AAA yet. I wince at some of the teams fielded last year due to injury (you know the days Im talking about), I dont think it will as bad this year, but having a little insurance is ok with me.

Flex - Tuesday, March 08 2005 @ 07:48 PM EST (#105244) #
I think Ryan's right on the money regarding insurance. Injuries happen. You can't have too many professional hitters. I expect Gross to be called up some time in May.

I come back, and no answer. Nobody will do my work for me. OK, I found the scores. 5-2, 4-8, 6-5, 12-9, 6-4, 2-1. That's 35 runs for, 29 runs against. 35^2/(35^2 + 29^2) = .593. Curiosity satisfied.
greenfrog - Tuesday, March 08 2005 @ 11:05 PM EST (#105253) #
That piece by Verducci was fascinating. It's great to hear that there is a good atmosphere around the Jays' spring camp. The PR can only help JP in his efforts to convince players to come to Toronto over the next couple of years.
