The Fisher Cats defeated Altoona 2-0 to sweep their best-of-five Eastern League Championship series.

Altoona 0 New Hampshire 2- New Hampshire wins series 3-0

Jordan has supplied the game summary in the Fisher Cats are Champions thread:

In the clinching game, Francisco Rosario fired 6 shutout innings, allowing just 3 hits and escaping trouble from the 4 walks he issued; he struck out 6. Jamie Vermilyea followed by retiring 2 batters, whiffing 1, and Series MVP Brandon League finished up with 2 1/3 shutout innings, yielding just 1 hit and 1 walk, striking out 3. Look for all three of these pitchers to show up on the Toronto roster over the next year or two.

John Hattig supplied all the offence with a 2-run homer in the 3rd inning. Aaron Hill banged out 3 hits, while Dominic Rich, Maikel Jova and Justin Singleton had 2 hits apiece.

New Hampshire broadcaster Bob Lipman advises and the Union Leader confirms that League and Gustavo Chacin will be called up to Toronto today.

League's going to be a treat, people. He's not the Illustrated Man like Justin Miller, but he does have a tattoo across his upper back. It says "LEAGUE" -- so even when Brandon's got his shirt off, it's as if he's in uniform. Last night, you could hear his teammates laughing when Bob Lipman tried to interview him on the field. I think they knew that what League really wanted to say wouldn't have been suitable for a family radio audience. He did manage to share the MVP award with his teammates and say thanks to the fans.

Don't be surprised if he's emotional when he gets into a game. This isn't a permanent callup, just a glimpse into a promising future. Check out the stuff, though -- his wicked slider is faster than many major-leaguers' heaters, and he will definitely hit 97 and 98 on the SkyDome gun. I won't promise triple-digits, because that depends on the calibration of the gun, but he's done it before.

Chacin is also being rewarded, though there's more of an "audition" aspect for him, as the club has less time to decide his future. I'd use him in relief of Doc on Tuesday and give him a start on the road trip. If he shows an ability to get big-league hitters out (2-0, 2.31, 14 K, 3 BB in 11.2 IP in Triple-A is encouraging, but inconclusive) and has a good spring, he could be a 2005 Blue Jay.

Much admiration and gratitude to Mike and all the other "sick" minor-league reporters and BBRadio volunteers (it's a J.P. term of admiration, like "dirtbags") for a fantastic season. You guys never missed a day, and in addition to some avid fans, your audience included too many people in the Jays organization to list here: front-office staff, coaches, scouts, players and their families. I've received more compliments on this aspect of the site than anything else we do, so on behalf of all those readers, thank you.

For League and Chacin to "go up" to Toronto they have to be put on the 40 man roster. Any idea who's coming off??

Congrats to the Fisher Cats. It's great to see that success and know that some of those players are going to be impacting the Blue Jays in the future. It'll be great to see Chacin and League this week.

Thanks to the Minor League Rotation and the BBRadio Stalwarts. You guys did an awesome job.

Kevin:

Catalanotto can be moved from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL, and Howie Clark or some other non-MLB, unimportant roster player can be designated for assignment. My guess is Cat and Clark are "dropped" -- but of course, Cat will be back next year.
Coach - Sunday, September 19 2004 @ 01:35 PM EDT (#34684) #
Half right and a very good guess, Rob. Cat to the 60-day and Aquilino Lopez dropped, according to Rob Faulds.

Wholly Crap - Gus is pitching tomorrow night in NYC? Lilly is scheduled for Monday I read and Halliday for Tuesday. From what I've read, those guys aren't getting moved. Maybe he'll pitch Wednesday - because that would be Batista's spot in the rotation and he's been moved to the bullpen. I hope Gus pitches in NYC - I have tickets to Tuesday's game. I also will make a DVD of the game in which he pitches...

Thanks very much, Kent, for all the kind words, on behalf of all the minor-league writers! By way of preview, our Top 30 Prospects should be posted no later than Tuesday, and possibly Monday, depending on circumstances. There will be some controversial rankings....

I'd also like to thank everyone for all of the minor league updates.

This is actually how I found this site - looking for Blue Jay minor league affiliate information.

God Bless,

Brian.

9/19/04 Transferred OF Frank Catalanotto from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.

Designated RHP Aquilino Lopez for assignment.

Purchased the contracts of RHP Gustavo Chacin and RHP Brandon League from Double-A New Hampshite.

Chacin is listed as a lefthanded pitcher. Good luck tonight, Gustavo.
_Kevin Pataky - Monday, September 20 2004 @ 03:38 PM EDT (#34692) #
He is a left handed pitcher. The transaction was copied from MLB.com. Chacin also used to pitch in Double-A New Hampshire - not Double-A New Hampshite.

Double-A New Hampshire - not Double-A New Hampshite

We'll have no Roddy Doyle expletives here!
