bird droppings dropped a tantalizing hint that he and the mighty O-Drum would make an appearance in the Boston series. What better time to fire up the troops with some noise than right after a road trip sweep of the Orioles?

I created an artificial long weekend for myself and went camping, and my new Jays cap got a lot of campfire smoke exposure, but it seems to have done the team good. So I haven't washed the hat in the hopes that the smokiness will continue to spur on the team's hitting.

Who's coming out tonight, tomorrow or Wednesday?

I'm going to the game tonight. I consider myself lucky. I got on of the 9 game flex-packs at the beginning of the season, and with it, you get two games where you can upgrade your seats. I chose a Seattle game (Ichiro!) and tonight's Boston game. Well, I wanted Boston to be battling the Yankees for the division, but I'll take a tense wild-card battle and Pedro Martinez pitching. Oddly enough, this is the second time that I've seen Pedro on the Flex-Pack, I saw Pedro vs Halladay earlier this season.

Where are your seats at, 6-4-3?

I was thinking of making a giant 1918 banner, but if no one's going to be up in the top deck with me to hold it up I probably won't.

That, or UNSTOPPABLE O-DOG.

Howdy all. Cant be at tonights game due to work, ditto Tuesday. Here's hoping for a Wednesday apperance, though it will be tough as I'll be leaving for montreal the next day.

Where is that link on the Blue Jay web site for the free tickets for the Oakland Series?
Named For Hank - Monday, August 23 2004 @ 02:47 PM EDT (#39700) #
Jonathan, I think you had to sign up for the Inside Pitch newsletter.
_alsiem - Monday, August 23 2004 @ 02:48 PM EDT (#39701) #
Jonathan,

I got a confirmation email from the Jays and it stated that that they had given them all away. I think the promo is finished.

I still haven't gotten the tickets in the mail.

I'll be at the game today and tomorrow but I've got fancy pants seats. It'll be fun if the drum shows up.
Craig B - Monday, August 23 2004 @ 03:14 PM EDT (#39702) #
My tickets from the Inside Pitch promotion arrived in the mail on Friday, by the way. Friday, Sept 3, Section 102 Row 9 (i.e. in right-center field).
_David A - Monday, August 23 2004 @ 03:39 PM EDT (#39703) #
I got mine last week as well for the Friday game, section 113, but row 28 (i'll be moving up within the first 2 innings for sure).
_Rob - Monday, August 23 2004 @ 03:41 PM EDT (#39704) #
I signed up rather late, so I guess I won't be getting tickets. Oh well, I'll just have to pay to get my V-Dub Lunchbox. :)
_Rob - Monday, August 23 2004 @ 03:42 PM EDT (#39705) #
Incidentally, if anyone here takes the last lunchbox on Sept. 4 and I'm next in line, you better not go to sleep.
_6-4-3 - Monday, August 23 2004 @ 03:49 PM EDT (#39706) #
Tonight my seats are in section 122.

I got my Oakland seats at the end of last week. They're on Sep 3rd, but they're 239 (left field). I'm also going to the Seattle and Oakland series during the first week of September. My seats for those games are in much worse positions, so I thing I'll try to make my way up during one of those games.
Thomas - Monday, August 23 2004 @ 04:53 PM EDT (#39707) #
I should be down for at least one game this series, but likely not tonight. Probably tomorrow?
_Sean - Monday, August 23 2004 @ 06:54 PM EDT (#39708) #
i cant make it to any of the sox games because of work but i hope there not too many more boston fans than there are jays fans.
I will be attending the saturday game against the yanks and on tuesday against the mariners hope to see the drum.
_Paul S - Monday, August 23 2004 @ 07:38 PM EDT (#39709) #
I used my upgrade on Wednesday's game. Section 115, row 32. I'm also going to Retro Cap Day and V-Dub Lunchbox Day. Man, I can't wait for the lunchbox.
_Sean - Monday, August 23 2004 @ 07:44 PM EDT (#39710) #
Rob, im going to steal your lunchbox. I take it to school and gloat to you that i got one and you didnt.(insert evil laugh here.)
_Anders - Monday, August 23 2004 @ 08:51 PM EDT (#39711) #
Hey - Its been a while for me but its good to see some faithful cc'ers holding down the fort.

I hope Obal is still cheering his little cheer club heart out.

See you in September
_Rob - Monday, August 23 2004 @ 09:53 PM EDT (#39712) #
You better be kidding Sean. This is no laughing matter. ;)

I may have between two and four third row tickets for tomorrow (Tuesday). I won't know for sure until tomorrow around lunchtime, but if you want one COMN and e-mail me.

Man, what a game to be at tonight!
_6-4-3 - Monday, August 23 2004 @ 11:56 PM EDT (#39714) #
Great, great, great game to be at. First because Lilly was amazing. The Bellhorn triple was a lucky break, but he just dominated for the rest of the night. Secondly, the night was even better because of the scores of Red Sox fans who attended the game. It's one thing to have witness a dominating pitching performance, it's another thing to see a dominating pitching performance that shuts up thousands of Red Sox fans, and it's another thing to see a dominating pitching performance that shuts of Red Sox fans *and* beats Pedro Martinez. It probably wound up being the second-best game I've attended this year, second only to the infamous night of noise versus Anaheim.

It was so good that I bought tickets to see Wakefield tommorow (which appears to be somewhat unfortunate, with the potential offer of free tickets)
_Paul S - Tuesday, August 24 2004 @ 05:50 AM EDT (#39715) #
The Anaheim night of noise? Was that Victoria Day because I was there with my mom. Coming back against K-Rod and winning on the best possible result of the The Jack Cust Play ruled all. The Jays have lost every game I've been to with my buddy Kevin (my partner in Flex Pack crime) so I told him he's a jinx. I'm seeing tomorrow's game with a lady friend, but being a Sox fan, I am hoping the jinx holds.

Saturday I'll be wearing a retro cap and slagging the piss out of the Yankees, though! When I went to the Labour Day game last year I was razzed out by Yankees fans for "not saying one positive thing about a Yankee!" Uh, you're in a visiting park. I didn't use any profanity in the presence of your kids. I merely made astute observations like the fact that Bernie can't throw like a male, and that Wells has a subpar fastball for a fat guy. If I made those comments in Yankee Stadium I'd be strung up. I know this. Respect that you're in a visiting park.

Anyway, even if I weren't a Sox fan I'd razz the hell out of the Yankees. I just wonder which angle to take in heckling Matsui from my LF seats.

Get someone to translate "Steinbrenner wants his money back" into Japanese for you.

WE HAVE A DRUM! I REPEAT, WE HAVE A DRUM!

Wednesday night the ol' Red Sox will get a taste of the concentration-destroying O-Drum.

Get someone to translate "Steinbrenner wants his money back" into Japanese for you.

"Steinbrenner は彼のお金の背部がほしいと思う"?

Not quite, since Babel Fish translated it back as
"As for Steinbrenner you think that we want the back section of your that money,"

Actually, those might be better signs: the double translations.
From Russian and back: "Steinbrenner wants its tail end of den'g"
Greek: "The Steinbrenner wants his back of money"
And the best so far, Italian: "Steinbrenner wishes its posterior part of the moneies."
Named For Hank - Tuesday, August 24 2004 @ 12:59 PM EDT (#39720) #
Try "Steinbrenner requests that you return your salary".
_Rob - Tuesday, August 24 2004 @ 01:09 PM EDT (#39721) #
Japanese: That your salary is reset, it requires Steinbrenner.
Russian: Steinbrenner asks that you you return your wage.
Greek: The Steinbrenner asks you return your wage.
Italian: Steinbrenner chied that you rinvi your wage.
simplified Chinese: Steinbrenner requested that, you return your salary.

Okay, so it's not as funny.

Alright. The Grand Return!

I was already excited for tonight, since it's my first game in three weeks, but the ending to the Olympic game has me extra-pumped for baseball.

NFH, what section are your seats in? I'll start out in 518, but if the turnout is small, I'll hike down to the 100s somewhere.
Named For Hank - Tuesday, August 24 2004 @ 05:17 PM EDT (#39723) #
536.

You coming tomorrow for some drummyness? The ice cream guy missed you last night.
Named For Hank - Tuesday, August 24 2004 @ 05:23 PM EDT (#39724) #
Of course I mean 136.
_Alex Obal - Tuesday, August 24 2004 @ 05:25 PM EDT (#39725) #
536?! The Barren Wasteland of Cold-Blue Nothingness? I'm THERE. ;)

I don't see anything stopping me from making all six games from now until Sunday. I love off-weeks.
_Alex Obal - Tuesday, August 24 2004 @ 05:25 PM EDT (#39726) #
Damn, this is what I get for going to the washroom before hitting the post button.

I should be in for tomorrow. I haven't had an Alex in a while.

L'histoire absurde du soir:

Down in 136, the home of the Cheer Club for the night, a pair of Boston fans started heckling us from the concourse in the ninth inning. (There were five of us). So we returned fire with the now-traditional "Nineteen Eighteen" chant, and then the "OK, put your hand up if your team's won a World Series in the past 15 years... 30 years... 50?..." gag. Most of the section actually did. I made a passing remark that, since I was wearing an Expos jersey at the game, I couldn't.

So one of the Boston fans said something to the effect of "Yeah, you should go back to Portugal."

Is that a great line or what? Sheer comic brilliance at the expense of Portuguese baseball. Portugal - everyone's favourite autonomous U.S. territory that supports a baseball team part-time!

Then they just went back to saying "It's over" and cheering and other non-noteworthy insults. But the Portugal line was Comédie en Or.

The Boston fans in general were really loud, especially when giving Timlin a thunderous standing O for his performance in the sixth. I love the energy that the visiting fans bring, but it hurts to know that, at least in terms of crowd noise, the first half of this homestand is going to feel like neutral-site action or worse. So a nice big Cheer Club presence at the next five games would be most excellent.

Here's hoping that the drum makes it to tomorrow night's game.

Is Mrs. Hank going tonight? Wednesday that being.

Nope, but she'll probably be there tonight.
