Todays minor league report is short and not so sweet. The good guys were 0-3.

Syracuse - All Star Break

New Hampshire - All Star Break

Fisher Cat Notes

Brevard County 5 Dunedin 4

Neomar Flores had been pitching well but yesterday was a setback. Flores allowed six runs in 4.1 innings. Dunedin could only get three hits off the Fort Myers pitchers. Ron Davenport and Scott Dragicevich each had a hit and a walk. A Miguel Negron double was the other hit.

Charleston - Rained Out, double-header day today

Auburn 3 Batavia 4 - 12 innings

A rare game for Auburn, the bats were silent, just eight hits in twelve innings and a loss. Mike MacDonald started and gave up one run in four innings on five hits. Kristian Bell allowed two runs in three innings. Joey McLaughlin pitched the eighth, ninth and tenth without allowing a run. Jayson Rodriguez conceded the winning run in his second inning of work.

Auburn scored their first run in the third, Curtis Thigpen singled to drive home David Corrente. In the fifth Thigpen homered. In the seventh Thgpen again singled to drive in Ryan Klosterman. Auburn could get nothing going in extra innings and suffered their fifth loss of the season.

Pulaski 5 Johnson City 12

Yesson Berroa was bombed, six hits, two homeruns in 2.1 innings. He was followed by Raymon Sanchez and Edward Rodriguez both of whom conceded runs also.

Down 8-0 after three innings, Pulaski never got it close. Yuber Rodriguez was 2-5 with a triple and a home run, four RBI's. Luke Hetherington also homered and drew a walk.

Our Three-Star Selection

The 3rd Star: Mike MacDonald, slim pickin's today
The 2nd Star: Yuber Rodriguez, triple and a home run
The 1st Star: Curtis Thigpen, three hits including a home run

Time for some BBRadio. Minor League Reporter Mike Green informs us that There's no Jay game tonight and six internet games available.

Well, count me in for the New Hampshire game; it looks to be Josh Banks for the F-Cats and Donnie Bridges for the Harrisburg Senators (MTL). First pitch...soon, I guess.

First pitch at 6:42.
French draws the leadoff walk and then steals second easily. (15 for 16 on the season.)
Two balls to Ty Godwin, then my feed cuts out and the music cuts in. I'll let you know what eventually happens here. :)
_Rob - Thursday, July 15 2004 @ 06:50 PM EDT (#51840) #
Well...is that guy from the Fisher Cats Board Op around? An engineer maybe? I remember someone posted here last month re: the Internet feed.

If so, maybe you can fill me in on what's happening down there in Harrisburg?
_Rob - Thursday, July 15 2004 @ 06:52 PM EDT (#51841) #
Never mind. The feed is back and I'm up to speed:
French walked, stole second and third, Godwin HR, Hill HR, then 3 outs.
So 3-0 NH after one half inning.
_Rob - Thursday, July 15 2004 @ 07:07 PM EDT (#51842) #
Bottom 1st - AA:
Chacin is pitching, not Banks. My mistake.
Labandeira works the count full and walks.
Machado quickly gets behind 0-2. He fouls off a few more pitches and then misses the high heat. One away on the K.
McKinley also falls behind 0-2. He misses the low changeup. Two K's for Gustavo.
Nothing and two on Broadway as well. He takes a ball and drives it past Rich into RF. Labandeira goes to third on the single. Two on, two out.
Lane also falls behind 0-2. Broadway steals second. Lane then grounds out to Solano to end the inning.
Note: Chacin got ahead 0-2 on four of the five batters.

3-0 NH after 1 complete.

Any Bauxites following along out there in Greymatter?
_Rob - Thursday, July 15 2004 @ 07:13 PM EDT (#51843) #
Top 2nd - AA:

Rich slams the first pitch off the first baseman's glove and ends up on second. A double? Hmmm...sounded like an error to Rob.
Mike Snyder up. Count goes to 1-1, then a shallow fly ball for the first out.
Solano, batting 9th, hits the 2-1 pitch to the outfield and it is caught as well. Two outs, Dominic still on second.
French pops out to second base. Nothing going there.

Still 3-0 F-Cats.
_Rob - Thursday, July 15 2004 @ 07:20 PM EDT (#51844) #
Bottom 2nd - AA:

Ware, a Canadian Olympian, singles to start the inning.
Camilo...another strikeout!
McMillan is up -- but wait, Ware is caught stealing. Two outs now and McMillan grounds out to end the inning.

Still 3-0 New Hampshire after two.

BBRadio will be keeping an eye on Binghampton tonight, since New Hampshire is only one game behind the B-Mets for the division lead. They're underway in New Britain, with no score yet on MiLB.com.
_Rob - Thursday, July 15 2004 @ 07:33 PM EDT (#51845) #
Top 3rd - AA:

Godwin, who had a 2 run homer in the first, singles this inning with a 2-2 count.
Hill, who also homered, watches Godwin steal second. Nothing new there for Ty Oh My. 27th steal of the season. Then, Hill wants to get in on the action and smacks one to the outfield. Godwin stays at third somehow and runners on the corners, nobody out.
JFG watches a ball, then another one, then two more. Bases loaded after the walk for the hot hitting Chiaffredo.
Chiaffredo grounds it back to the pitcher, who goes 1-2 for the force out. Bases still loaded, one out.
Singleton (headed to Syracuse soon?) flies out all the way to the warning track. A long sac fly, as everyone advances. Hill scores, JFG and "Chia" move up. So two on, two out.
Rich gets ahead 3-0 and then grounds out 6-3.

1 run, 2 hits, 1 walk, 2 men left.
4-0 NH going to Bottom 3.

And, as always, tonight's Cahoots Sports Bar and Grill Trivia Question: "On this day in history, what late American president witnessed a triple play?"
_Finn McCool - Thursday, July 15 2004 @ 07:34 PM EDT (#51846) #
Auburn is playing in Batavia tonight. After one inning Auburn leads 2-0 with Vinny Esposito hitting a 2 running home run.
_Rob - Thursday, July 15 2004 @ 07:52 PM EDT (#51847) #
Bottom 3rd - AA:

Dorta works the count full and skies it to Godwin in right. One away.
Labandeira gets on for the second time tonight with a single. One on, one out.
We got a replacement here -- GJ Raymundo -- for Machado. (No word yet on what caused the injury, if there was one.) The full count pitch is over Godwin's head in right field, scoring Labandeira. 4-1 for the F-Cats, lead cut to 3 on the RBI double.
McKinley watches three Chacin balls go by, then two strikes. The full count pitch is fouled off, as is the next one, and the next one. Then it's smoked to the wall, to the track...caught by Singleton. Two outs, Raymundo to third.
Broadway lines one off Solano's glove and Raymundo scores on the single to left. 4-2 now.
Lane hits the first pitch to centre for a single, Broadway to second.
Rick Adair out to the mound to talk to Chacin after four hits this inning.
"Good Canadian Kid" Jeremy Ware grounds out to Hill to end the inning. 2 runs, 4 hits, 2 left.
Fisher Cats 4, Senators 2 after 3.

Oh, and the answer to that question? Richard Nixon.

Note: Strangely enough, Josh Banks will pitch tomorrow against...Corey Thurman? Yes, Corey Thurman. Not sure how he got to AA, or the Montreal organization. Someone else know the story there?

And I missed that entire 1-2-3 inning for New Hampshire. Oh well.

After 3.5 innings, 4-2 NH.

The Reds signed Thurman in the offseason but voided his contract in the spring because of a pre-existing shoulder injury. Guess he's healthy again and signed with the Expos.

A four pitch walk to McMillan, and there's one on with one out.
A flyout to left by Dorta. Two outs.

Top of 6 AAA:

Brandon Claussen pitching for Louisville.

Julius Matos lines a single to left. Gabe Gross, 0-2 on the evening, lines a double into left-center. The centerfielder bobbles it a bit, and Matos comes in to score. Joe Valentin warming on relief. Glenn Williams hits a fly ball to right, Gabe Gross tags up, but the rightfielder Kenny Kelly drops the ball ! Louisville Manager Rick Burleson comes out to argue the call, but makes no headway. Burleson makes a second effort, and gets tossed. Dirt sustains significant damage.

Runners on the corners, nobody out. Shawn Fagan up. Fagan strikes out looking. Simon Pond strikes out swinging (Claussen's 8th on the night). Chad Hermansen pops up to short. Burleson's fit of temper had the desired effect.

3-1 Syracuse after 5 and 1/2.

Bottom of 6 AAA:

Top of 7 AAA:

Joe Valentine now pitching, his first appearance in 10 days.

Better outcome this time please, boys. Russ Adams pops up to Lopez at second; Russ is now 0-4 in his first game back after an injury. Julius Matos walks and the bases are loaded for Gabe Gross. The lefty Brian Shackleford in to pitch to Gross.

On the out-of-town, Dunedin scored a run in the 7th to tie the score at 2, and they're now in extras, Auburn apparently leads 6-5.

AA Update

Bad time for me to return, as it's tied at 5 going to the bottom of the ninth. Not good. DeJong must have given up some runs there in the 8th. I'll hang around for the last of the ninth, but I'm half asleep right now so I might miss something.
Mike Green - Thursday, July 15 2004 @ 09:40 PM EDT (#51875) #
Bottom of 7:

Aquilino Lopez warming in the bullpen.

Glynn gives up a double to Dane Sardinha to the wall in left-center. Glynn then strikes out Stratten and Kenny Kelly (his 6th of the game and 4th of the past 5 batters) and induces Olmedo to ground out to second.

3-1 after 7.

I've got to go. Really nice performance by Ryan Glynn.
_Rob - Thursday, July 15 2004 @ 09:45 PM EDT (#51876) #
Binghampton's basically won, up 9-1 in the fifth. So a F-Cats loss here may put them two games back of the division lead.

Bottom 9th - AA:

DeJong still pitching for New Hampshire.
Full count to the first batter, and it's a ground ball to third...Solano makes the play. 5-3 on the putout.
Camilo hits it way back but the wind knocks it down in front of Singleton in centre. Wind blowing in, I guess.
Belcher up now, with the winning run on base. He flies out to centre.
Two outs, Dorta now batting. 2-2 count and Dorta keeps on calling time. Rain falling heavily now, and a ball comes across for a full count.

Full count. Two outs. Winning run on first. And the pitch...is fouled off. The next pitch...ball four.

Winning run at second, top of the order up now for Binghampton...
_Rob - Thursday, July 15 2004 @ 09:46 PM EDT (#51877) #
And Labandeira swings at the first pitch, a ground ball to Solano. 5-4 on the putout at second, and we're going to extras.
_Rob - Thursday, July 15 2004 @ 09:52 PM EDT (#51878) #
Here we go in the top of the 10th in Harrisburg.
Hill, Griffin, and Chiaffredo due up. Nice if you're cheering for the F-Cats, which I am.

Hill, 3-4 today, leads off. Ball one low. Grounder up the middle and an error! Hill "safe" on the E-4, maybe the wet ground played a part in that?
JFG takes ball one low. Outside, 2-0. 3-0 with another outside pitch. Taking all the way, strike one. High, ball four.

Runners on first and second, here comes Chiaffredo...
_Rob - Thursday, July 15 2004 @ 09:54 PM EDT (#51879) #
B-Mets expecting the bunt. And he does, fouling it off.
(Wait -- why is their #4 hitter bunting? Never mind.)
He pops another one foul, and now it's 0-2. Good job on the sac bunt, no he's down 0-2 for no reason.
Chiaffredo hits it to left and Camilo brings it in. One away, first and second.
(Wait -- why did their #4 hitter try and bunt? Never mind.)

Singleton batting...
_Rob - Thursday, July 15 2004 @ 09:56 PM EDT (#51880) #
Singleton: foul, ball, line drive single to left. Hill being waved in and the play at the plate...
_Rob - Thursday, July 15 2004 @ 09:57 PM EDT (#51881) #
SAFE! The throw was wild and Hill scores, JFG to third, Singleton to second. Still only one out, and the Cats are up 6-5.

Rich is IBB'd. Bases loaded for Mike Snyder...
_Rob - Thursday, July 15 2004 @ 10:01 PM EDT (#51882) #
Snyder takes a strike. Then two fouls in a row. Fastball way outside, 1-2. *Another* two foul balls. Swing and a miss, strike three.

Danny Solano up now with two outs and bases juiced...
_Rob - Thursday, July 15 2004 @ 10:06 PM EDT (#51883) #
Solano now at 2-1. Rain picking up again, ball 3. (One more pitch and it's 7-5.) Down and in, ball four. Yep, it's 7-5.

Anton French batting. He bounces one up the middle. Call it a 4-6 fielder's choice. Inning over.

Travis Thompson coming in for the "save"> 7-5 New Hampshire, going to the bottom of the 10th.

Dunedin lost 3-2 in 10 innings, by the way.
_Rob - Thursday, July 15 2004 @ 10:07 PM EDT (#51884) #

AAA:

Aquilino Lopez came in to pitch the 8th and got 'em in order. 3-1 Syracuse going to the bottom of the ninth, Kevin Frederick in for the save. First batter makes an out, strikeout and Dane Sardinha doubles into left-center, just out of the reach of a diving Anthony Sanders. Corky Miller pinch-hit for Stratten, and walked. Two on, two out, and former Sky Chief Gary Burnham pinch-hits for Kelly.

We'll do the pitch-by-pitch. Swing and a miss. 0-1. Burnham takes a pitch high. 1-1. Burnham swings and doesn't get it. 1-2. Foul tap down the first base line. Next pitch is high. 2-2. Frederick deals, fly ball to left..Gross back to the track and makes the catch.

3-1 Syracuse final.

Out-of-town. Dunedin lost 3-2 in 10 innings. Bubbie Buzachero took the loss. Vince Perkins pitched well, and Ryan Roberts knocked in both runs. Pulaski gave up 2 runs in the eighth and lost 4-3.
_Rob - Thursday, July 15 2004 @ 10:13 PM EDT (#51887) #
Okay. Travis Thompson here in the bottom of the tenth, with a two run lead. Harrisburg has left 14 or 15 runners on this game. Gotta be a record for them, no?

Raymundo: Walk on five pitches. One on, nobody out.
McKinley, the potential tying run, singles. First and second now, still nobody out.
Broadway, 3 for 3 today, up with a chance to tie it. First pitch is a called strike. 0-1 is lined to the left field corner. Raymundo scores. McKinley scores. It's all tied up at 7 after the 2 run double by the 4 for 4 Larry Broadway.

7-7.

Lane up with Broadway on second.
Lane lines one to Godwin who can't come up with it. Broadway stays at third.
Then, the throw short-hops Chiaffredo at home and Lane takes second on the error.

Well, BB Radio seems to be making a triumphant return in the second half..hehehe..

Couple of notes. Looks like VPerkins compromised a little filth tonight for the plate - just one walk, but two bombs allowed. Still a nice outing - 6ip with 5 k's and 6bb+h. Four or five more of those and I'm guessing he's on his way to NH.

CSnavely seems to have a bit of a power streak going on, hitting his 11th dinger tonight, and the average is climbing to the respectable range - will be curious to see his splits when the spreadsheet is up and running. MGalloway seems to be picking it up, too - always nice to see from the Canadian content. If only David Corrente would hit enough to keep Pigpen on the bench, we'd have a hat trick of impressive Canucks.

And Tom Mastny must be the new president of the "I don't really like Charleston, anymore" club - he can't seem to do enough to get out of there.

From Pulaski- there's been a Russ Savickas sighting. He was found coming out of the pen, tonight, hurling two efficient innings. He outperformed Grant the past two years, hope he gets it together.
BTW, CAnderson is killing the ball for Pulaski, too. A little old for the league I think at 22 3/4, but good for him.

Great. Auburn pounds Batavia 14-7 but there is no boxscore.

Auburn boxscore is up... Pigpen went 4-5 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI's. Go Piggy Go!
