Another day, another win. Behind a strong performance by El Artista the Jays cruised to a 6-2 victory over Texas.

The seventh inning rally really put the game away. Gregg Zaun started it with a walk, his third free pass of the game. Josh Phelps got hit by a pitch, then Alexis Rios walked to load the bases. Eric Hinske unpacked them just as quickly, driving two runs across the plate with his second single of the afternoon.

"That was a big hit for us, but I thought Rios' at-bat to draw the walk was real big," Tosca said. "Sometimes, a young player will want to do too much in that situation and go outside the strike zone. I thought that was a big at-bat, but Eric's base-hit was real big."

* Fordin Notes - Delgado is likely headed to the DL, Rios is rambling, and Frasor's scoreless streak has reached 19 appearances.

Question:
If Delgado hits the DL, who gets the playing time? It sounds like Phelps would play 1B with Pond getting ABs at DH. Agree or disagree?

* Sobering win for Jays - Delgado's Rib Injury Takes Edge Off Fifth Victory in a Row.

* Elliot on Baseball - Ryan Dempster had Tommy John surgery on August 4th. He just pitched 3 innings in the minors and hopes to be with the Cubs within a month. Why do I bring this up? As Will Carroll likes to frequently point out, the recovery time for Tommy John surgery is getting shorter and shorter, with some pitchers coming back in a years time. AJ Burnett is expected to join the Marlins this year a little over a year since his surgery. Hopefully McGowan will have a similar, quick recovery.

* Hinske See The Light - Hopefully that light is the scoreboard with some crooked numbers in the Jays row.

* Blue Jays Watch - Smallball!

*Today's Game - Justin Miller vs Kenny Rogers. Rogers has pitched pretty well for the Rangers to start the year win 7 wins and a 3.34 ERA so far.

I think it's likely we'll see Pond get a boatload of bats but I imagine if there's any move to be made, we'll see Marvin Bernard jetting up from Syracuse. I don't think Ricciardi wants to see Gross starting to accumulate service time and he's injured, limiting himself to DH. It's amazing how beat up this squad is right now.

The logical answer as far as Delgado not being available is Phelps at first and Pond DH or vice versa. What I do wonder about is how the roster spot would be used? Will it just be filled with Woodward coming off the DL?

If the do call up Bernard, who do they talk off of the 40 man roster?

The Jays have the following guys on the 40 who aren't on the big-league team or on the DL (according to MLB.com):

Jason Arnold
Bob File
Jesse Harper
Mike Nakamura
Fransisco Rosario

G. Quiroz

Jorge Sequea

J.F. Griffin
Gabe Gross

I'm not sure who they'd call up from there, or who they'd take off to put Bernard on. It'll be interesting to watch.

Rogers should be crafty today. I doubt we'll see anything resembling a pitchers duel. The ball will probably be ricocheting in every direction all afternoon.

I'll go out on a limb here. Whichever pitcher receives the better D behind them will likely come away with the W today. Oh, and run support will be crucial.

BTW, me thinks that Buck will crack the whip on the basepaths today. He'll probably do more manufacturing that William Hung's record label.

As strange as it sounds, I like the Jays battling through these injuries. God knows, they were not clicking when all were healthy. I think this is a chance to let some players prove if they can stick, or if they (Pond, Estelella (sp?), Frasor) are short term fills. I'm sorry to say, I don't expect the Jays to be going anywhere this year, so this might just be a necessary period of growing pains, to find out how far players have come (Rios) and who needs a good slap (Hinske, Phelps) to wake up.
