A 3-3 tie in the 8th quickly turned to a blowout as Ligtenberg failed to retire any of the 5 batters he faced. The result was a 9-3 loss to the Red Sox that snapped the Jays home winning streak at 6 wins.

* Fordin Notes - Lilly needs a confidence boost, File is pitching well in Syracuse, and Patterson heads to Miami to see his daughter graduate from Med School. Perhaps his daughter is an unpaid scout for the Jays.

* Star - Six-run eighth Sox it to the Jays

* Sun - Disastrous Eighth Buries the Jays

* Sun - Blue Jays Watch. Simon Pond will platoon with Reed Johnson, getting most of the ABs as he's lefthanded. If you're going to figure out if Pond is a player it's better to play him regularly than starting him every 5th game and then sending him down after a few ABs like his last trip to Toronto.

On the other side of things, the Blue Jays seem determined to have Reed Johnson be no more than a 4th OF. This is the second time he's being platooned and the first was with a utility infielder. While it's probably his best role for the team in the long run (with Gross and Rios joining the team no later than next season) I would think that there's a team out there that would value him more than that and trade for him.

* Star - Jays come undone in the eighth

* Globe - Bosox leave Jays behind with six runs in the eighth

* Star - Griffin - Jays dig up Pond as the quest continues

* In a sign that perhaps the Expos situation will be resolved after this season, Jose Vidro is close to signing a 4 year, $30 million deal with the Expos.

* Today Game: Bronson Arroyo vs. Pat Hentgen

Griffin funny :)

"But, until Ricciardi recalled him yesterday, the Jays had featured a four-man bench of similarly vertically challenged, singles-hitting clones. In addition to backup catcher Gregg Zaun, filling in well for an injured Greg Myers, the Jays reserve squad had featured three slappy infielders, Chris Gomez, Dave Berg and Howie Clark. It was the baseball equivalent of the Smurfs as pinch-hitters."

Three Slappy Infielders -- funny, because it's true.

As one not from the area, wanted to add my two cents. Not hearing the Jays radio, not seeing the Jays tv, but having to endure Jerry Remy's incessant whining, on the Boston Broadcast I could hear the drums and wondered if Cleveland had invaded or, toronto was under attack. Great job guys, I did ask one locale what she thought, she sits by the bullpen, and wondered what I knew...may the groups grow!

That's a lot less than what Vidro could make as a Yankee.

Jerry Remy's incessant whining

Don't knock the Rem-Dog!

Rem dog constantly was going off on the fact that Tosca was wearing a watch, before that how Toronto just isn't a good baseball town, before that how the Jays are wasting players talents, How it is easy to play the Jays because they don't bunt or steal, and how he was a much better player then Odawg, before that....I need not go on, the guy is homerism at its best, but not as bad as the whitesox, put it on the booooooard yes!, and He gone. I hear Toronto viewers criticize their local crew, which I would like to hear just once, I realize each broadcast is for the home crowd, and home viewers love it, but its interesting to see how incessant these guys are. At one point the Sox announcers (not the main two, the one in the stands, mistakingly referred to Toronto as Florida).

Despite the loss and the bullpen failure, Tosca's decisions were reasonable.

Personally, I would not give the ball to Ligtenberg in a close game unless 2 of the next 3 batters due up bat right-handed. In last night's contest in a 3-3 game in the eighth with Ramirez, Varitek and Daubach up and Adams having pitched 1 inning in the last 4 days, I'd bring him in for the 8th and 9th. However, Tosca's need to place someone in the closer role, rather than the ace role, determined his decision, and he is certainly not alone among current managers in this use of personnel.

I like Simon Pond, but there is no basis in his performance to date to use him as a regular platoon right-fielder. His hitting at triple A, last year and this year, suggests that he is not as good a hitter as Reed Johnson. More importantly, he is a very poor defensive outfielder.

Total props to the Cheer Club last nite. They were awesome. More than awesome.

Thats's right, folks, AWESOME.

We'll be there again today. Meet in 518. You still have time to come see YOUR TORONTO BLUE JAYS thump the Sox and guarantee at least a series split.

This game is important. We NEED to at least split with the Red Sox, and versus Pedro tomorrow is no sure thing. Come help us help the Jays.

I'll see you in 518.

how he was a much better player then Odawg

I'm sure I'm not going to change your mind, but the if I had to choose what I think is the best local broadcast of any team it'd be the Red Sox pretty easily (I'll take Orsillo over McDonough though).

I slept through the middle innings (these NBA games go way to late during the week) and often flip around channels, so I didn't hear everything on the broadcast, but I am certain that there's no way he said he was a better player than Hudson unless he was saying that in jest (which is very possible). He would never say he's a better player than anyone, that's not his nature.

I must thank everyone and anyone who was up in 516 last night. That was absolutely hilarious. The Rally Drum was not properly used last night which is my fault, hense the loss... we will prevail in this series!

My voice is almost dead and I have the worst hangover but I'll be up in 518 tonight. My friends and I ended up taking some Bostians out on the town last night after the game. Everyone and anyone who I met last night who was from Boston or just a Boston fan was great. I feel a Jays win tonight. Looks go Patty!

Hey Bird Droppings, get some tylenol in you and get going, the game isn't tonite but in 40 minutes. Ouch! My advice? Stand behind the drum today.
