A big Batter's Box Hello! to Sportsnet's Scott Carson. Not only does his latest column echo many Bauxites' puzzlement over the continued use of Dave Berg as a left fielder, but he also plugged the Box in his latest column:

A shout out to the guys at www.battersbox.ca. I really enjoy your knowledge of and passion for the great game of baseball. For the uninformed, this is a website frequented by computer savvy Jays' fans, who are on-line throughout the game exchanging opinions, thoughts and strategies. I urge you hardcore fans check it out. (By the way, boys, I also saw that guy getting removed from his seats last Friday and he looked nothing like me!)

We hear you, Scott -- keep up the great work, and thanks for the spotlight!

Some disturbing quotes in The Star this morning:

Terry Adams:
"I made the pitch I needed to make and got him to put the ball on the ground," said Adams, into his second inning of relief after getting Matt Stairs to pop out to end the eighth.

"The rest of it is out of my hands."

-well, you always allowed men on the bases, giving one of them a free pass... This doesn't sound like a team player.

Carlos Tosca:
"We're one out away from taking this series," Tosca said, shaking his head. "The one thing this does for me is it eliminates our sweep of the White Sox.

"Let's not kid ourselves, in the American League, you're not going to win a whole lot of games scoring three runs."

-now here's a champion! Let's worry about new losses, we'll just deduct from our past wins. And about the 3 runs thing, I can think of scores of postseason games one with only three runs. If you've got two outs in the bottom of the ninth, even with only a one-run lead, you've screwed up if you don't win that game.

Thanks Scott! Hopefully a few of what we here call the "casual fans" read your article, came over here and learned some things about the Jays to help them get more into the Jays. It always helps when fans are more educated about their team. Not that we here at Da Box are the be-all, end-all of sportsfans, but it's certainly helped me know more about the Jays and get more behind them than I ever have. Hopefully this (and more wins would help too) will lead to no more crowds of only 10K.

Adams' commment could also mean he's a DIPSciple...

Winning by scoring three runs is a great strategy if your pitching staff and defence are great. The Jays have neither luxury. They rely on hitters hitting at the moment and unfortunately the lineup they field tends to be weak against lefthanders (Brian Anderson excepted).
