Phelps sinks Sox with do-over. Batista impressive as Jays win fourth straight game, this time 4-2 over the White Sox.

* Star - Jay's Do-over Dinger Tops Sox

* Fordin Notes - Batista overcomes fatigue, Phelps' power is coming, and Cash continues to gun them down.

* Star - Miller makes self butt of humour with Koch artwork. `I love Billy Koch' tattooed on his rear. Much-decorated Jay did it for the cash.

I suspect that Miller had no problem with MLB selling advertising on the bases to Spider-man.

* Globe - Johnson takes aim at his old job. The story is from yesterday, but I missed it then.

* Today's Matchup - Esteban Loaiza (4-1, 4.08 ERA in 2004) vs Justin Miller (0-0, 3.27 ERA in 2004).

At 1:00 today, the Toronto Maple Leafs independent league baseball team start ceremonies for thier opening game. Bob Feller, Gaylord Perry, and Lee Smith will be among the attendees. If you're not watching the Jays, come down to Christie Pits.

I'll be in 518 for today's game, wearing a new grey home cap and my orange shoes and an early '00s road jersey. Join me if you want to yell.

Anyone see highlights of the Tigers-Rangers game? Detroit scored 8 runs in the top of the 5th to take a 14-4 lead; Texas tied it with 10 runs in the bottom of the inning. Texas won 16-15 in 10 innings. Somewhere, Jayson Stark is ecstatic.

Hands up all those who thought that Wells would have the same number of walks as Delgado this late in the season... Guess all that nagging from J.P. about Vernon taking more pitches is having an effect. And the O-Dog is only one walk behind those two (and Hinske)!

Nakamura has more strikeouts than Hentgen. Ouch.

Thanks, Pistol for the stats summary. It's easy to see why this is a good ballclub in a down spell, rather than a bad ballclub. Delgado, Phelps, Wells and Hinske are all 50-100 points off the slugging percentage which would be reasonably expected from them. The pitching save for Hentgen is fine.

Wow, who here realized that VW had the best K/BB ratio on the team?
