I'd sure look like a fool dead in a ditch somewhere
With a mind full of chemicals
Like some cheese-eating high school boy

The last two days have shown me something: I'm really, really glad there aren't thousands of people judging my every move at work. I'm glad that offshore gambling firms aren't taking odds on my job longetivity. I'm really glad every minor move I make isn't dissected into a million pieces by other guys like me on a weblog. Not that us Bauxites should stop dissecting those moves: it's part of the fun of being a fan, and any baseball manager knows that there will be times like these. I just wouldn't want to be that manager right now.
  1. Do you really want to read more about yesterday's game? Here's what the press is saying: Sheila Mulrooney Eldred: "Jays drop rubber game to Twins: Comeback falls short as bullpen falls apart", Jeff Blair: "Newly minted closer exhibits his wild side" and "Tosca takes blame for bullpen bungle", Allan Ryan: "Blue Jay closer rocked by Twins", AP: "Koskie homer sinks Jays" and Mike Rutsey: "'Pen coughs it up".

  2. Fordin Notes (by Sheila Eldred) tells us that Terry Adams is the closer now. Other possible candidates were Jason Frasor, Gwyn Price, and Trodgor the Burninator.

  3. Today's game features the 0-2 Pat Hentgen for the 7-14 Blue Jays against the 3-0 Esteban Loaiza for the 12-8 Pale Hose. It's an 8:05 start at New Comiskey. MLB.com has a game preview.

  4. If you missed it, Allan Ryan recaps the Carlos Tosca/Betting Company connection in "Tosca's future a shaky proposition: betting Web site".

Pointless Question of the Day
We've all talked about how we'd like to see another outfield bat. If not Chad Hermansen, what Ken Phelps All-Star would you like to see J.P. acquire for the role?

If you didn't already feel bad for a Devil Ray

Christian, I do not feel bad for the Devil Rays and wish them nothing but ill will.

I suppose you'll tell me that makes me a small and petty man.

So be it. A plague upon their house.

I took the jays to win by at least two for my proline ticket? Is there any hope that Hengten could beat Loiza, or is there no hope. Well, maybe just a FOOLS hope?

Does anybody else think that JP questioning Tosca in public is a crappy move? That's something a crazy owner does not your G.M..

I guess JP was upset, and he should feel free to chew him out in private, but you don't need to embarass the man in public.

Boy, it's a good thing not everyone listens to the FAN 590 for Blue Jays news.

Some of the "better" points during today's Primetime Sports, courtesy the same radio station that brings you all 162 games during the season:
- They should have kept their old outfielders, since the ones they have now are useless
- Eric Hinske is also useless and did not deserve a five year contract: JP only signed Hinske for 5 years because it was his first trade and he had to defend his reputation
- David Bush "will" be the next Jays' closer

They had to hurry up and finish so they could analyze more hockey.

I tell you guys, if it wasn't for Da Box (and Wilner), we wouldn't get any intelligent Jays content. I mean, who would like to have Mondesi instead of Cat right now? Nobody? Exactly.

Niles, I was listening to the interview with JP that night and two things became quite clear: he was extremely exhausted and highly frustrated with a terrible blown save. In fact, his yawns or the pauses during which he yawned were quite noticeable. As a rule, he seems to avoid questioning Tosca publicly, which is very important. I think this was a slip on his part and understandable, considering the circumstances.

Re:the Hip: I can understand people being fed up with how overplayed they are and I know they are a band that people seem to either love or hate. But, the very fact that they're causing such strong reactions on both sides of the love/hate fence means they're striking a strong chord. It's kind of like the Yankees, you love them or you hate them and I abhor them and everything they represent with their limitless budgets and the way they, more than any other team drive salaries into oblivion. There's one big difference between the Yankees and the Hip. While the Yankees destroy the hopes and dreams of fans of AL East teams everywhere every year (hopefully not this year), as a fan of music you have so much choice. Yes, you will be bombarded by the Hip just about everywhere you go in Canada and there are some pretty knuckleheaded Hip fans out there, but stupidity doesn't discriminate, it's everywhere. The nice thing is your music collection is yours and when you slip those headphones on and get lost in your own little world, it doesn't have to include the Hip or any other band you don't like. It's yours, enjoy it.
