Another ugly loss as the Jays lose 11-2 to the Orioles.

Fordin Notes - Is Batista using too many pitches?

Josh Towers gets his first start of the season today against his former team. He's expected to go 50-60 pitches. Get the bullpen phone ready!

Today's game - Towers faces Ainsworth at 1:05.

A look at some stats after 10 games:

* Kevin Cash leads the team in average and slugging
* Phelps is off to a good start - .333/.395/.462
* 4 starters all have batting averages under .200 (Delgado, Woodward, Hudson, and Johnson)
* Is there a way to clone Halladay? Batista, Lilly and Hentgen have combined for an ERA close to 7.50 so far
* On the other hand, the offseason bullpen acquisitions have been pretty good, with the exception of Lopez.

At some point the team will start hitting, and at some point the starters will come around. A hot streak isn't far away.

From the Toronto Star game summary:

Notes: Manager Carlos Tosca has tinkered with his starting rotation, slipping lefty Ted Lilly between Roy Halladay and Batista. The move means Lilly will start Wednesday's game versus the Boston Red Sox when they visit SkyDome

I guess this means Roy goes on Tuesday, as Bauxites had expected.

Well, the Harville speculation is over now. The A's and Astos completed a trade yesterday that sends Harville to Houston, Sarloos to Oakland.

Good morning!

I am heading up to Cleveland Sunday and I'm going to catch the Injin's and Tigger's game... any advice or input I should know about Cleveland?

Any 'must see' or 'must do' things?

I did Cleveland last year with some buddies - nice little town.

I believe they enacted a new law last year that made scalping illegal - that is, cops actually had the right to bust them. They still scalp there (tickets that is), but you can get way less than face without too much trouble. ie. Offer the guy 50 percent of face and you should do ok. We got tickets about ten rows back from 3rd for something like 25 bucks a piece. Great seats. We also sat in the bleachers which was fun, and down first baseline in shallow right, which was also cool.

I'd avoid the rock and roll hall of fame. I'm a huge music history fan and I found it expensive and boring. There's really not much there. FWIW, the Experience Music Project in Seattle is much better.

If you're a guy who likes the rippers, _I've heard_ that the scene there really sucks so don't bother. Though you get free cover at some of them if you keep your Indians ticket stub.

The Jake is a nice park. Their signature dish is a bratwurst with some special brown mustard. I had about 5 of them over the weekend. They also featured a fried catfish sandwich that was great. They've also got a microbrewery on site - I believe it's "Great Lakes Brewery" - with some awesome local beers.

As far as downtown goes, all of the stadiums and museums are in nice parts of town. There's been an urban renewal program going on their for the past few decades and it's really a nice city. The people are super friendly as well. I don't think you can go too far wrong wandering around down there. Check out the warehouse district and the flats are where the night life is.

Paul Godfrey has another revenue-generating idea for the Blue Jays: Implementing the Jock Tax. (Story by Rick Westhead, Toronto Star)

The Star had an interesting story on Godfrey and friends' desire for Ontario to enact a pro player tax which would benefit the Jays and other pro teams (like, say, the cash-strapped and perpetually underattended Leafs) when visiting teams come to town.

Apparently, Alberta currently has a 12.5% income tax for professional athletes (vs. the 10% everybody else pays); this gives the Flames and Oilers about $3 million anually.

I have family in Cleveland and have been there many times. I know a couple of mid-management guys in the Tribe front office from college, and can tell you that Jacobs Field is right there as one of the top ballparks active right now. However, do NOT wear anything indicating allegiance to any team other than the Indians. This is not a joke.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame isn't any great shakes, true, but it's also pretty much walking distance from the Jake, so why not go? It's an entertaining, if not overwhelming afternoon.

The best restaurant in the city is Lola's, which is a little hard to find and a little pricey, but if you're there on a weeknight you probably won't need reservations.

The Flats is ... well, was a great place to go when I was in college, and I graduated in 1988. It's gone downhill significantly both in quality and because it's now where everyone goes.

If you're there for a while, one of the better amusement parks in the US, Cedar Point, is about 70 miles away in Sandusky, Ohio.

Cleveland.com has a listing of events.
