This charming piece on retiring Yankee Stadium organist Eddie Layton, who started working the Stadium the same year I shuffled onto this mortal coil, just reminds us how great it would be if Skydome had an organist of talent and imagination. I've attended or watched countless games at the Dome, and I've concluded that the organist knows exactly three tunes: "Charge!" "The Addams Family Theme," and "Go Jays Go" (a variation on local favourite "Go Leafs Go"). And that's it. Day after day, over and over ... these three vapid tunes symbolize the Skydome sound as much as the preternatural echo. Isn't Nancy Faust available as a free agent?
One of the world's great organists, William O'Meara - a very fun guy by all accounts - lives right here in Toronto.
Wouldn't it be great to bring him on for an April game or two, just to see what sort of rise he could get from the crowd? It would be worth a try.

I think you mean that the AV guy only has 3 tapes.
Organs and SkyDome just don't mix well to me. It's like Scotch and Cake. Big drums on the other hand...

Mike promised to bring drums to a Cheer Club event next season. Think we could get a whole band past the ushers and into the stands?
My theory is that they had more tapes at SkyDome, but they wore them out and don't have any budget to replace them.

Geez, I think a nice slice of ginger cake or carrot cake with cream cheese icing goes beautifully with a heavily iced rocks glass of whiskey. Maybe a blend, something smooth... or one of less upstanding malts, like The Macallan.
It's all about getting the right mixture.

I don't see why not.
There's always a full marching band sitting in the stands at the Argo games. Unless you're sitting real close to them, they're a little hard to hear over the piped in music. And the cheering of course. Almost impossible to hear them over the yelling of the two to three hundred fans that show up.
And yes, I realize it's odd that someone would stop lurking in order to make a comment about a marching band.

I'm looking to get a nice big one. It's mainly an excuse to spend more time going to pawn shops and thrift stores which is a huge hobby of mine.
Cheers,
Mike

Is anyone else shuddering at the thought of Mike wearing Craig's old pyjamas?

I'm laughing at this. Mike is built like a baseball bat; I'm built more like a baseball.

The only two things I'd really need to see:
1) An organist who can play Baby Elephant Walk.
2) Dancing Homer.

I haven't been to the dome in quite a while, but I agree that the AV leaves much to be desired. I wasn't as bothered by the economy of tunes as much as the overabundance of stupid sound effects. All the bloops, sproings, crashes, etc. always left me with a headache. And since somebody mentioned drums, I hate drums in the stadium. Probably because I watched a game in Cleveland from the bleachers, only a few rows away from the guy with the huge drum. He's at EVERY GAME, and that sound now drives me nuts.

I'm not so sure about that. I was trying to figure out my dress size last week and I think I'm a size 10. These damn hips!

That's the Argonotes, an all-volunteer band (run by Steve Hayman, a waycool guy I know).
