There's very little left to play for today: all 4 division series matchups have been determined as the Houston Astros were crunched. San Francisco and Atlanta are still battling for homefield advantage in the NLCS.

NL Central: Chicago clinches and will face Atlanta in NLDS

Kerry Wood won't have to pitch Sunday and will almost ceratinly be the game 1 starter against Russ Ortiz and the Braves. The Astros folded their tent and the Cubs played solid baseball to clinch

I think Jimy Williams didn't get the most out of his club. Outside of Atlanta, no National League team can match the quality of Houston's 6 best players: Kent, Bagwell, Berkman, Oswalt, Dotel and Wagner. Surround that with several good players (and the Astros have those too) and you ought to win 95 games.

The Giants won 4 of 6 from the Braves, so should Atlanta lose and the Giants win, San Francisco will be the #1 seed in the NL playoffs. If both clubs win or both lose, the #1 seed will go to Atlanta. In that scenario, the Giants would ordinarily have to play a make-up game against the Mets in New York, but because of travel difficulties they requested that a make-up game not be played under those circumstances.

I'm gonna go with San Fran - Chicago and NYY - Oaktown in the championship games. I'd like to see a Bay Area series, but my money is on The Giants over the Yanks in the championship. A Yanks-Braves series would be bad, but a Yanks-Red Sox series would be even worse (except, of course, it says a lot that the Jays could win 85 or 86 in a division with both ALCS participants).

Sportsnet is just doing the NL games on Tuesday. Any TV of the Yankees game Tuesday? (I get Rogers Digital Cable here in Ottawa. Rogers wouldn't collect $100+/month from me for all their sports programming and not carry a baseball playoff game, would they?)

Ditto for Wednesday. It appears Sportsnet is just doing the NL games on Wednesday. Any coverage of the A's game at 10pm?

Good news, Sportsnet is now advertising "triple header" coverage on Tuesday and Wednesday, including the AL games. (Earlier today they just advertised the NL games on Tuesday, and the Rogers Digital Intereractive Guide just showed the 4pm and 8pm games on any channel on Tuesday and Wednesday.) The only concern now is that the games might overlap some.

Rod Beck fell behind Helton 3-0 and then threw an intentional ball to walk Helton and put runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 out. That should be enough to give the title to Pujols.

San Diego bats in the bottom of the 9th down 2 runs. If they tie the game, Helton is due up 5th in the top of the 10th.

This is one of those threads where we may have lost a few comments in the server move. If they don't come back, sorry.

Man, that would have been a cheap no-hitter for Loaiza this afternoon. Tony Pena gave most of his good players one plate appearance, then substituted everyone but the bat boy.

Pujols .3587
Helton .3585

The closest batting title in the 128-season history of the National League.

Both Atlanta and San Francisco won, so Atlanta earns homefield.

No Pennant Crunch today; I'll return with Playoff Preview, 1st edition tomorrow.

Robert, will you be posting updated park factors, or do you know where else to find them on the web? Thanks.

Stephen,

I just finished my park factors for this year. They'll be posted tonight or tomorrow.
