Laments Jim Caple on ESPN's Page Two.. Caple and Eric Neel are doing a tour of all the major league ballparks (lucky stiffs) and awarding points as they go.

Skydome gets 66 (better than the Big O at 49 but a way behind Pac Bells 91). Though many of the points seem to be awarded due to the close proximity of Hooters and a bizarre love of 'Lets go Blue Jays'.

The overall assessment ' a pretty decent place to watch a game'.

Lets go, Blue Jays!

My friends like to make fun of the "Okay Blue Jays" thing, but gosh darn it, it's hard not to sing along when you're there.

Besides, I like how the American visitors sit in awe during the song and then almost ALWAYS say "That was so cool! I wish we had this instead of the "America the Beautiful" or "Take Me Out to the Ballgame"."

And I'm ashamed that Toronto didn't score higher on the friendly chart. That will bust the "Canadians are nice" myth.

Now we have both "Okay Blue Jays" and "Take Me Out to the Ballgame"!

I think the exercises to "Okay Blue Jays" are a little silly, but the song is now a part of Blue Jays tradition. They've been singing it since at least 1983, so it brings back memories now.

And I like "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" too, because of the "one, two, three strikes you're out" part (which all True Fans[tm] know is punctuated by raising one, two and then three fingers in the air).

I got down to Olympic Stadium last Friday for the Expos-Marlins tilt, it had been about 7 or 8 years since I had attended a game there and wow did I forget how bad it is. 49 is a GIFT...Two scalpers were taking turns pinning eachother to the side of our bus before we even got off of it and then (for the purpose of this story we'll call them Fat and Distrubingly Obese) Fat broke Disturbingly Obese's umbrella, which resulted in the two chasing eacher for all of 10 steps until both overweight men in their 40's were so winded that Disturbingly Obese was able to stand in one spot and weeze while beating Fat senseless with the broken umbrella. So then we went inside where food and beverages were even more overpriced than the Dome and where the size and comfort level of the seats was disturbingly small/low. I'll give them credit for value of ticket (I 40 rows above homeplate for 8 bucks) and fan intensity because all 7200+ that attended the game made WAY more noise than 30,000+ fans at SkyDome (though I'd take away an imaginary point because a drunk Jose Canseco look-alike threatened to beat up a female friend of mine over nothing as his incredibly embarrassed wife looked on).

What was important is that the Expos lost a game they should have won-I was infuriated at the bunt attempt by the Expos in the 7th with a man on, none out and a 1-run lead. I'm not sure what the fatal flaw was but the batter (who I can't recall at this point) showed bunt two times (both were 5 seconds too early) and then proceeded to put way too much bat on the ball. MTL messed it up so bad that after the bunt they were left with 2-outs and no one on base (5-4-3 DP). Then in the ninth Todd Hollandsworth (apparently the H is optional because they neglected to show it on the scoreboard) lead off as a pinch-hitter for the pitcher and promptly placed the second pitch into the gap over the center-field wall. This was followed by an error (given to Cabrerra at SS but was definately a ball the firstbasemen should have had), which turned into the winning run.
Scoring note: Penny whacked a well hit single in the second off of Vasquez

(I realize this is venting about a game that happened almost a week ago but it was really THAT bad and I haven't had enough time to type in length about it since then)

BTW...If the usher hadn't stoped them from moving we would have been labeled pushovers. And I enjoyed lets go Blue Jays, until I was 10.

When I hear the way people talk about Olympic Stadium, one of my favourite places on earth, I think that I must have some sort of badly broken brain.

A, I am shocked that you had that bad a time. I think we need to do a BBox road trip to the Big O next year (oh, they'll be back) if we can manage it. Who's up for driving all day and back all night!?

apparently the H is optional because they neglected to show it on the scoreboard

Todd 'Ollandswort'...

I love Olympic stadium, too!

I spent an entire game in RF alternating between teasing Rockie Larry Walker, and telling Guerrero how much Toronto loves him.

Yeah, I couldn't imagine a worse fate in life (or death) than scalping Expos tickets. It saddened and confused me, and made me think I had stumbled into some lost chapter of Dante's inferno.

The Big O would be better if they bothered to mop the floors once in a while. And while I admire the fans' ability to make a LOT of noise, sometimes I question their timing. When your hitter is down 0-2, does banging the chairs encourage him, or just pump up the pitcher to finish him off?

And is it me, or do Expo fans hate the Blue Jays much more than the other way around? What's the deal with that?

It's generally true that the rest of Canada hates anything Toronto much more than the other way around.

I find the Big O to be a funky place to watch a game. The stadium colours are sort of retro, which is funky good. The seats are horribly filthy and the whole place smells like a county fair, which is funky bad. The food is no better than one can find in a flea market, which is also funky bad. But the crowd, and every sound in the place, echoes forever...funky good.

The smoked meat sandwiches at Olympic Stadium are really good. They look small but the bread is very thin, i.e. they are mostly meat.
