Not today, sorry folks. Leonard Koppett died yesterday, so I didn't feel much like working on the screed I was trying to write because I have my nose in one of his books now.

He was a master of his craft. Please, if you haven't, check out his masterpiece. Regardless, I encourage you to read some of his recent columns.

I remember as a kid my Mom took his The Essence of the Game Is Deception: Thinking About Basketball out of the library for me thinking I'd enjoy it. She was right.. I think I finished the book within 2 days. That has to be atleast 15 years ago.

One of my biggest heroes died this weekend: Former NHL coach Roger Neilson. I've never got the chance to meet Neilson, but I've always admired him from a far. he was a brilliant coach and I don't recall ever hearing a negative thing about him. The way the Leafs treated Neilson, McDonald, and Sittler in the 70's make them such a fun team to hate for me.

The sports world has lost two greats in Koppett and Neilson.

One of Koppett's best lines is bittersweet this morning. "I can imagine a world without baseball, but can't imagine wanting to live in one."

I hope Leonard's in the Elysian Fields press box today, watching Satch challenge the Babe.
