Has a few interesting pieces.
Stephen Brunt breaks out an old journalistic staple claiming the Jays can always dream about next year, because this year is lost already. I don't think many of us here expected that much sucess this year, certainly only the most optimistic were speculating on contention for the Wild card. Brunt goes on to suggest that while there is 'reason for optimism' on the offence the team is 'doomed' until they can afford a decent pitching staff. He makes the reasonable point that Oakland have had a lot of luck to go along with their superior decision making in their run of success.
Brunt loses me in one area where he claims that while the Jays are trusting J.P because hes an "awfully smart baseball guy" ... but ... "so are many of the people running small money franchises that flounder year after year. They're all trying to do pretty much the same thing, using pretty much the same plan". WHo is using the same plan as the Jays and floundering year after year ?
William Houston reports that 'The Score' is proposing to cover the Canadian Baseball League if it can get an increase in its cable fee.
In another story in the paper that I cannot find online, it's suggested that Halladay's slow start has led to changes in his off-day throwing program and a lot of concern about his very 'aggressive' off season throwing program - he starts throwing in january. The suggestion is that he's suffering from a dead arm due to overuse.
