Thanks to Gerry McDonald for this link -- Baseball America has compiled the Opening Day rosters for every organization, at each level from the majors to Low-A.

Each player's batting and throwing hands are listed, along with height, weight, age as of April 1, and the peak level they played at in 2002. Like any project of this size, it's not perfect; they've got some big pitcher named Rob Halladay on the Jays roster, and I don't remember Cam Reimers playing in Toronto last year. It's still interesting, and to some, may even be useful.

As R Billie mentioned in another thread, Josh Boyd of BA reports that the Jays have moved RHP Dave Bush, one of the best closers in the NCAA and a dominant reliever in his first pro season, into the Dunedin rotation. LHP Justin Maureau, who struck out 51 and walked just 12 in his first 43.2 innings of pro ball, will also be stretched out in High-A.

I was imagining Bush in the Toronto 'pen as early as next year, but that timetable is optimistic if he remains a starter. It works both ways, as former starters Vinny Chulk and Mike Smith are supposed to be moving to the Syracuse bullpen. Even if these experiments aren't all successful, at least the organization learns something about their assets; the Jays certainly aren't afraid to make changes or defy tradition.

That New Haven outfield looks good. JF Griffin, Gabe Gross, and Alexis Rios (who finally showed some promise last year).

I also didn't realize that Justin Miller was sent down all the way to A-Ball. Maybe the Jays are attempting to duplicate the Halladay resurrection path. Justin Miller didn't have a Halladay-like breakdown last year but he seemed unsure of himself at the major league level. I suppose the plan is to have him dominate 19 year old kids to reestablish his confidence before being brought up the organizational ladder.

No, Christian, I think it's more weather-related. Miller is sure to get his work in in the warmer climate; he is still likely to be called up when the Jays need a fifth starter. Expect Werth to go to Dunedin soon for the same reason.

I wish someone would send me down to Florida to get my work in. I'm not getting anything done looking outside at all the snow on the ground.

Thanks for the link! I have a feeling I'll be going to that page a lot.

I really like what they've done RE: where the guy played last year. A lot of sites tell you that someone played for the Springfield Isotopes or the Reykjavik Fish Candy last year, but unless you closely follow minor league ball, you won't know what level/affiliation those teams have. Saying Red Sox (AA) makes it a lot clearer.

So does anybody see a good LHB minor league OF who can play some center? The jays *really* need one for their bench.

Paul Godfrey was on Rogers Community TV in Toronto last night (why I have that channel programmed in, I have no idea) and gave the distinct impression that Miller will be up with the Jays over the next couple of weeks...one would assume at the cost of Doug Linton.

LHB centerfielders: Wise, Singleton, Thomson, Godwin, Rico, Davenport, Medina, Negron, Owens.
Not a problem at all. My favourites as future 4th Ofs.? Wise and Godwin. Good fielders and very good runners, some pop...

Wise = The Huckaby of Outfielders

Singleton, Thomson, etc. are all years away, if they'll ever make it at all.

I love what JP is doing with the team, but this bench is godawful. Is having a guy like Doug Creek really more valuable than having a fourth outfielder/decent pinch hitter?

Werth has already made a start in Dunedin, going 1 for 1 with a walk.

The Syracuse website has posted starters for their series against Rochester, and both Chulk and Smith are starting.

I don't think those games are going to get played. The next game between the two teams is supposed to be in Rochester tomorrow afternoon. I'm in Rochester right now, and we're having an ice storm. They closed most of the schools today, etc... the place is a mess. So I imagine the game is going to get cancelled. I was planning to go to the game with some co-workers, but we decided it wasn't a good idea considering how lousy the weather is here.
