I'm not sure if anyone previously posted this article on prospect Dominic Rich, but it is yet another fine one by my favourite Blue Jays writer - John Lott.

Rich is quite stocky for a young 2nd baseman, which may cast doubt on his ability to avoid injury at a high-risk position (presumably, by being less nimble than a typical middle infield prospect).

This may alienate readers who flinch at the mere mention of his name, but my first thought when I saw Rich on TV was "Pete Rose". If you're not old enough to have seen the young Rose, you may not know what I mean, and I don't intend to slander poor Dominic's character by the comparison.

Their body types are similar, but what really reminds me of Pete is Rich's aggressive posture and cocky demeanor when he's hitting. He really believes he owns the pitcher. He's willing to accept a walk, but if they dare to throw him a strike, he'll rip a line drive.

His numbers in the pitcher-dominated FSL were sensational, walking more often than he struck out, hitting .345 with a .909 OPS. Rich wasn't as great in AA at the end of the season, but this year is on schedule to master that level. He may not be as smooth or naturally gifted as Russ Adams, but he appears to have plenty of attitude. An All-American at Auburn and one of the very best players in A ball, Rich is another winner, which makes him athletic enough for me.
